Forums and Wiki now live
Alright! Phew! The forums and wiki are migrated to a different hosting package and upgraded as well. The forums are still a work in progress as we look to iron out issues and work out some functionality. A couple things right away. The old style/theme didn't survive the migration as it was incompatible. Currently the default prosilver style is turned on for the forum for everyone. Under Board Settings there is also a darker theme called Black. It may need some tweaks to look right but out of most of the phpbb 3.2.5 themes available it was one of the only ones that looked ok. We can always add or look at another as well. The banner at the top is.. outdated! So I think we should look at having the community create one if possible that could universally fit across the board themes? We could have a contest even.
Next! The old forum calendar functionality did not survive the migration for the same reasons above.. lack of development so it would no longer work. The new calendar replacement is the best one we could find. It integrates with your forum posts specifically per forum. When you create a new forum post, there is a calendar tab available with the first new post. This gives you calendar options. If you create a post in your private guild forum with calendar options, that event will be place on the calendar. Only people with access to that forum can see the calendar event which is handy. If you want a calendar event more visible to people, such as a trade fair, it will need to be posted from a forum with more visibility such as a Ferrell Marketplace for example or General Discussion. If you don't see a calendar tab for your forum and want those options, please reply to this post. We'll be turning it on for all private guilds and ic forums where it makes sense as well as a few ooc forums too. It just may take a day to get through.
If something does not work on the forum or on the wiki, please let me know either here or in a pm. If something is missing, let me know. There are a couple things still to be put back on the main page as well, it just may take a day or so.

Something I noticed, but if anyone sent PMs since around the time the maintenance happened, it looks like they got obliterated during a part of the upgrade process. Guessing the last version of the database from right before the upgrade got copied in at some point during it.

One of the calendar options is in German. FYI it means remove as in remove entry/event

I kinda hope we can find a better calendar solution. Having to create a new topic for each and every event is gonna be a pain and get spammy on making new topics.gutemensch wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:14 amOne of the calendar options is in German. FYI it means remove as in remove entry/event

Re: Forums and Wiki now live
I love it. Most all events are tied to post already. Plus there open and close as choices via the 'type' drop down. I'll assume open makes the entry viewable by all and closed for just members of said group or guild. So, in long story run or such; we just edit the post and redate the entry.Sarmanos wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:18 amI kinda hope we can find a better calendar solution. Sorry about the board spammers.. the captcha settings are easy to defeat at all levels so I've set it to what the wiki was using .. which reminds me on another thing to look at.
"One of the calendar options is in German. FYI it means remove as in remove entry/event"
I'll see if I can find that in the code and rename it.
As for the calendar it was the best option out there (the only other one i could find used some sort of weird rating system and didn't have a calendar display). Most calendar events are linked to a forum post already anyway, this just keeps you from creating two.
We do have the option to move the weekly calendar bar further down the forum if no one likes it at the top.

Great at the top on a webpage, really intrusive on a phone, so not sure?avliswebadmin wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 11:10 amWe do have the option to move the weekly calendar bar further down the forum if no one likes it at the top.

Re: Forums and Wiki now live
Maybe make a new board just for public calendar and event posts? I'd feel a lot better about posting there instead of clogging up general or making tavern posts I can't clean up after.

Re: Forums and Wiki now live
I think new post for calendar events is awesome! I see events on the calendar all the time with no IC post attached so I never feel right attending. Like how would my PC know if there is no IC notice!
I don't think spamming our IC boards will be a problem since they could use a little spamming with happenings and event write-ups.

Re: Forums and Wiki now live
looking good!
Is the "side bar" functionality going to return? like the links to other worlds, wiki and real-time info on number of people logged in to servers?
Thanks...

I just wanted to say a major thank you for all the work you did on this upgrade. I know it’s still in progress but there is a lot of work that went into this and it’s appreciated.

All of this has been restored save for the real-time tracker, which ought to be back soon. I'd say give it 24-48 hours while kinks are being worked out.

Re: Forums and Wiki now live
The portal side bars are there, the forum was just not landing on it by default. It should be resolved now.
I renamed the German calendar drop down tag for "Remove". I think selecting Remove will take the calendar entry away though I might need someone to test that and let me know if that's the way or just clearing the calendar settings does the trick.
Right now there are just two labels for events, Open Event and Guild Event. I turned on attendance tracking for them both. We can make other labels if we want and possibly color code them. It's also possible to then display a legend on the calendar main page with the event if I turn it on.
A nicety of the calendar the way it is now is that if you click on the event, it takes you rigth to the forum post for it so its all integrated as one where before you had to make two posts really.. one on the calendar and then one in a forum and paste a link to the calendar.
For the calendar, the weekly overview that is at the top of the forum is best towards the top as it is lost when moved to the footer. There is now an option to hide the weekly overview by selecting the "Events switch off for today". They can be turned back on using a similar link.
The paypal donation links should be working again. The last portal block to resolve is the server totals still.

If you want the calendar stuff up at the top of the forum hidden, you can click the "Events switch off for today" link under it (left side). That will only get rid of it during this session though.
If you want it hidden every time you visit (I do for my phone), then add the following at the end of whatever shortcut you use to visit the forum:
This hides the calendar stuff. E.g.,

By the way, the url shortening here is really annoying, so if someone knows how to disable it, do tell. Anything I post with the site domain prefix "http://www.avlis.org/" is chopped off. I have to use code blocks just to show the full url.

Regarding the calendar -
Is there any way to tweak it so it becomes an option when a new reply is posted on an already existing topic? So far from my tinkering it looks like a calendar posting can be made/edited when the OP is first made or if it's later edited. I can already think of how I'm going to work around it if it can't be done, but it will either involve a lot of editing and expanding of a single post or just a lot of posts being made over time and cluttering things up where the original can't be edited for one reason or another.

Do you have a little more context, I'm guessing that you mean editing your own posts in a specific forum if you made the first post and want to change something in it later?Elradra wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 5:25 amRegarding the calendar -

Have the Calendar options for follow-up posts (after the topic starting post), that is?Is there any way to tweak it so it becomes an option when a new reply is posted on an already existing topic?

Yes, I can enable it for subsequent postings. I'll turn it on and we can see how it works.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking for! Either way you should be able to set calendar options on subsequent posts now in the same topic instead of only the first one. I'm not sure if it will cause confusion.. I don't think so as clicking on the calendar event should take you right to that specific post.
