SHS 1.8.0.0 Release

Post by MadK@ » Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:34 am

The last Spell Hooking System release, SHS 1.8.0.0, is now imported into all Avlis modules, and it'll be live in each module on the next reset/reload.
I would like to extend a huge thanks to Nob who powered through the remainding 54 spells to complete the Avlis spellhooking.
A big thanks to the testers who squished hopefully all of the bugs:

Aerill
bigbadandugly
Loki70

The list of spells and systems upgraded:

* Spell Sequencers functional: They will now also store data on spellDC, metamagic used and caster level of the caster who placed the spell on the sequencer
* Several fixes to AMS. Added teaching function.
* All Epic Spells added to the hook

The 54 spells that were upgraded with this release are:

I'd also like to add that as of 1.8, all SHS metamagic functions should be working with AOE spells. PsiOmega deserves a lot of credit for helping me devise the solution to that issue which had been so intractable in previous revisions. It means now you can safely change your walls of fire into sonic walls and your acid rain into fire rain.

Again, thank you everyone for your help.

Now to plan the next release...

There is no mention of the rather nice ranger spell that was upgraded in this. Blade Thirst is quite handy now, and even better with militant bonuses. I think it is still getting more work done on it, but it is a very useful alternative to gmw finally.

Hooking a spell does things such as: makes it so it can be scribed; makes it so metamagic rods work with it; makes it so that it takes RDD and PM levels into account.

I think that's it, but someone more knowledgeable could correct me.

Spellhooking involves a few things, but overall the main benefits for standard spells are as listed above: Scribing variables now apply (they have been scribable forever, but you couldn't change their caster level/DC, etc.) AMS now works with them, elemental subsitution/metamagic rods now work with them, caster levels take PM/Holy Warrior levels into account.

Other advantages:
Area of Effect spells now fire reliably. So you can use things like magic circle vs. alignment, wall of fire, storm of vengeance, blade barrier, etc. to your heart's content and they'll fire right.

Easier to edit individual spell effects.

Easier to apply new spell functions. etc. etc.

Not at this juncture. It just drops lots of meteors.

The impact VFX is dependent on element, though.
