Changeling Changes

Post by Kinarr » Sun Apr 22, 2007 5:11 pm

Players of changelings, you may have noticed some new options in your changeling feat conversation menu. There have been some updates and bug fixes, so here's what you get:

-Changeling PC will no longer greet himself
-Speed bug fixed
-Dynamic dwarf form can now be chosen
-More information about the form is saved, most of which is printed in the menu next to the form
This is fairly self explanatory when you see it. The extra info is listed in the menu next to each memorized form, such as the head number, body type, other stuff...

New menu options
-Fix speed
Use this option to set your speed correctly when you first join a server or when transitioning to another server. Only forms that require a speed adjustment will get the increase. This means any form that has a "normal" speed will get the slight increase to make the changeling the same speed as other PCs. Forms that are naturally slow (iron golem) or naturally fast (pixie) will not be affected.

-Change head
Any dynamic model form will have the option to allow you to set which head you want and will be used whenever changing to that form.

-Change body type
Only dynamic forms will show this option. Change your body type to normal or large for this form.

-Options for using portraits and resetting original portrait
Choose whether you want your portrait to become the same as the portrait the target has. If you don't like the target portrait, you can select to have your original portrait used for that form instead.

Some of these new options will only get full benefit when memorizing new forms (rather than any forms you currently have memorized), so that all information can be stored when you first memorize the form.

Happy changing 8-)

its a shame though, since forms like the fey are supposed to be faster. now mages can polymorph and still be fast but a changling will be a slower fey. that part didnt sound like a bug needed fixing unless i dont understand how it works.

I know it's been a confusing issue, but here's what happens.
Every creature appearance has a set speed defined for it. Almost everything is Normal speed, including all the NPCs of all the playable races- humans, elves, etc. Some are Slow (cow), some Fast (Jaguar), and some Very Fast (Fairy).

Now, when a PC is first created, they are set to yet a different speed. PC speed is slightly faster than Normal speed. This allows you to run away from those pesky gnomish bandits. Even a changeling, when first created, is at PC speed, but as soon as they change form for the first time, their speed gets set to the speed of that form. If they change into a human, their speed is set to Normal. The "bug" here, is that they can never get back their original PC speed, since they take on the speed of whatever form they copied.

So, the fix for this, is to give changelings a slight speed increase whenever they are using a from that has Normal speed. This allows them to keep up with all the other PCs going at PC speed. If the changeling becomes a fairy, they don't need a speed boost, because they will be just as fast as any other fairy with their speed set to Very Fast.

Incidentally, a changeling in fairy form will be faster than a polymorphed PC in fairy form, because polymorph does not change the PC's speed.

I resent this remark, monks don't do crack, we are way more disciplined and sophisticated than that and use amphetamines.

Great work Kinarr! These are all amazing additions for Changelings characters! It also will make playing one (especially that old pesky speed problem) alot easier now. Thanks!

You could be like barbarians and take HGH shots twice daily. :student: -> :saufen: -> :barb:

I don't think mages get speed increase... though I could be wrong. I know shifters don't get speed increase, even if the changeling does for same form.

Wiki updated. Quoted Kinarr, as that was the best, most clear explanation I've seen of the movement issue.
