Elysia is back up, mostly. Deglos is back too.
Well, we found out the reason why Elysia was going down and staying down. The hard drive on that machine was caputsky... dead... gone... clicking through its last spins. That was not fun. Luckily, we had a backup computer that we were not using yet, and it had another hard drive. So there's some good news and bad news.
Bad news is that it's going to take a day or two to get Elysia's database connections back on track. We set up the extra computer to run Elysia with bare essentials, but it got too late before Silk could connect everything between the new computer and the main database server. So you'll have to deal with very little persistence on Elysia for a bit. I think you can still portal back and forth from Mythos fine.
Good news... there's lots of that. Elysia is back up. It should be up to speed. This new computer is a 900 mhz machine. Up until now Elysia has always ran on a 333 Mhz pentium. So it should be faster now.
Other good news... Because we have a few extra mhz, we are able to put up Deglos again. Remember that server? It was the southern dwarven/gnome homeland. It was brand spanking new with very few areas and no fleshing out, but it had a pretty good bar to hang out in and rent rooms. You can now get there again. I anticipate that Deglos will stay up so lon as it doesn't cause major problems for Elysia on the same machine.
More good news... That leaves us with an extra machine. But that machine has no hard drive or network card now, and very little memory. I have a piece that CuRoi sent me, and we may need another piece now. We had to canibalize some parts from the 333 mhz to get the 900 mhz up. I HAVE an extra hard drive, but it's only 2 gigs. Still its' enough to run windows and maybe one server.... BUT, if anyone has a 10 gig or even a 4 gig hard drive that they are not using, and they want to get rid of it, send me a PM and I'll gladly give you an address to take it off your hands. If we got this 333 mhz running again, we would definitely be able to keep Deglos up forever, and we may even be able to sneak in the beginnings of the Kurathene when the workload lessens a bit.
So that's the situation... looking up, I would say, at the moment. 'course if you'all'd buy the t-shirts and stuff that we had online, we would have no need of piecing together crappy little computers that can barely squeak by. We'd just build new ones like the one we built for Mikona/Wilderness.... hey

*vrosh wonders why there was a sustrained earthquake near elysia before O'ma decided to build it safer*
Hmm 900 mhz machine sitting around, 333 mhz with elysia. What were ya waiting for? Well Im glad Elysia is back up and im sure lots of the crafters are also, despite the less/lack of persistance, until silk gets around to fixing it.

Thanks for the post Orl, I was just coming to the forums with questions and I think you've answered it.
I found that the crafting at Fanos wasn't working, and Fanos apple/wheat didn't trigger for me. I tried porting to the Wilderness. That is broke too. So guys, when he says they have it running with the bare essentials, he literally means the 'bare' essentials.
PS. I didn't try porting to Mythos so I can't confirm if it works.
Despite the inconvenience, I take my hat off to you, thanks for getting it back up.

*sigh* Sorry, I'm not buyin' that t-shirt that has a lone guy standing on it with a dragon in the background. I'm sure it's quite um.. "realistic" to assume that worlds exist without women in them. *coughhackcough* I'll buy the map mousepads instead, just haven't gotten around to it yet. AS IF Avlis or any other world could exist and grow without the female component in it to provide new blood to sustain growth.Orleron wrote:'course if you'all'd buy the t-shirts and stuff that we had online, we would have no need of piecing together crappy little computers that can barely squeak by. I once told an M'Chekian soldier to fish for food to feed his starving people, rather than wage war and try to take what was not rightfully his. He, of course, told me I was crazy.

Thanks - this is good news indeed
Unfortunately, I still can't get a reply from either Elysia or Deglos
I can get Papillon's copy of Elysia, but not the real one. I tried with the name and the IP address (having used Ping to get the new IP address).
I can get all the other servers, both by name and IP, just not those two.
Has the new machine got a new ID, or is it using the NIC from the old machine?

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

Second this as well, Elysia does not respond.
The secondary Elysia is up though, the temporary one, and when attempted it says something that it is trying to portal to Mythos, but nothing happens there either...
Always impatient...

Diamond, you were not the one who we wanted to buy the t-shirt. Duh! Didn't we already say that you gave way more than enough to the world anyway? You are the singlemost biggest donor to Avlis aside from Silk and I, so if you never bought anything or gave another dollar ever again you would not hear a complaint from me. However, I think you'll like the second Avlis pic we have coming eventually.

No Deglos - is that using different details now?
Thanks again for Elysia. How wonderful to see Fanos again

Is there anything wrong with the Avlis/Mythos portal?
I tried with 2 different chars to go there. On occassions I get the same error message about some file error.
My char names were 7 and 8 letter long, one word only.

Besides the picture is depicting Mikon standing in the balance between the symbols of all the other major dieties.. It's not just some "lone guy"

Equipment donations...
Orleron - I'm not sure what kind of hardware you are looking for, but due to my recent upgrades I am left with a spare CPU and fan w/heatsink. Not sure if you can use it but if so, you are welcome to it. It is a 900 Mhz Celeron and never been overclocked, so it's in good shape. If your interested, send me your address and I'll ship it to you...
Cheers,
