If you ask a DM for permission to do something and the answer is NO, then you cannot do it. However, if you refrain from asking, because you know the answer will be NO, then this does not mean you have permission.

If you do something without asking for DM approval because you genuinely did not know it was advisable to ask, then that is not a problem. However, if you deliberately choose not to ask for approval because you know it will not be granted then this is not acceptable.

Most people have a pretty good idea what will be permitted and what will be refused. Deliberate abuse of this will be treated as a breach of the rules, with appropriate punishment.

This counts as part of the 'Common Sense Rule'. Please don't do it.

One small addition to this, on the subject of asking permission from a DM.

If you do ask a DM for permission to do something and the answer is NO, then the answer is NO.

Please do not say to yourself 'He/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about' and go off and ask another DM.

This does happen on occasions. We have even had some people who kept asking different DMs until they finally got the answer they wanted. The word 'finally' is appropriate there, because those people are no longer on Avlis.

I am not claiming we are perfect and that every answer we give on a technical question will always be correct. However, if you ask one DM for permission to do something and the answer is NO, then that is the answer you accept. Oddly enough, we do talk to each other and this sort of repeated request does get found out. Then you get Banned.

Please do not do this.
