Opening chests in Neverwinter Nights

Post by Overgaard1982 » Thu Jul 06, 2006 3:04 pm

Hi folks

Im new to the Neverwinter game, and I am quite puzzled as to why some of those goddamn chests just wont open..?

Take for instance one of the central rooms in the warrens, in chapter one - there are a number of chests that cant be lockpicked at all, and where my +1 greataxe has no effect..

How does one open such unopenable chests..?

FOIG is not something I'd use for a question concerning the original campaigns.

What he said :D

Some chests are key-only and plot... so you can swing at them all day and night and try picking them and they will only open with a specific key.

There are doors in the NWN campaigns that will also be the same way.

Have fun!

Also having a weapon that does elemental damage, even 1 point will open a lot of chests that don't bash easily.

I also ran into one that had like 30 damage reduction so you better be able to hit hard.

Thx mates!

Critical hits are a possibility

Also I've found out, that if I select a henchmen with rogue skills instead of the sorceror, he'll be able to unlock all of the locks - it's just so damn expensive to teleport back and hire him anytime I stumble upon a chest..

^^^^

Easier said than done :) - that little fucker always stirs up trouble, and runs recklessly into the fray LOL.. It was so much easier in Baldur's Gate when you had control of your comrades - it's hard to get used to NWN in that aspect..

trying talking to them, and command it to use a bow instead of melee, and to stay far away.

Other options, if you just want it to be there to unlock doors/chests, and NOT help in the fight...

Tell it to stay stealthy all the time, and to not attack enemies.

^^^

I've tried to tell him just to use his ranged weapon - but to no avail - he still (a sorceror) runs into the fray with his petty short sword and gets whacked on immediately.. In fact I havent seen the dude using his bow the last many days..

I dont think the other options exist in my version of the game - I just have NWN (1.67) and no expansion packs (yet..)

Here's a hint: The sorcerer's AI sucks donkeyballs. In fact, most of the spellcasting AI in NWN does. If you're going to use a henchman, use the rogue.

The other option is to use the "improved AI" which is available from the Bioware NWN forum pages, although not having tried it, I can't vouch for it.
Cheers,
