Locking up Equipment

Im asking this question on behalf of a couple of NewBs. I understand there is housing somewhere in alvis, but I imagine that could be quite expensive for us. Is there somewhere to lock down itmes that you aquire?
I dont want to buy anything of much value but at the same time dont want to carry all my gold around with me.

Sorry if this is a sticky somewhere, but I couldnt find anything other then people talking about locking things in the Trunk or chest.

There's two ways.

One you buy a house, which is rather expensive.

Two, you rent a room, which costs like 1,000gp a real time week. Gold you can't put in to a chest, but it can't be taken anyway so there's no reason to.
