Hiya,
Not that I'm able to use my UMD with mage scrolls yet (Before I've taken a shiteload of more rogue levels, to make UMD equal my spellcraft

), but I'd like to know if there's any arcane spellfailure on scrolls as well, if using UMD..
Thanx yous

Edit: Moving this to NWN General Discussion as it's a game mechanics question.
And I'm pretty sure there is 0 arcane spell failure from using scrolls.

Always consider alignment as a tool, not a straitjacket that restricts the character.

I just learned its harder to cast scrolls with umd then it is with spellcraft. Spellcraft is 20 + spellevel, and umd is 25 + spellevel. so i think your failure lies somewere there...

If he means arcane casting failure then no, there isn't. However, failing the UMD/Spellcraft check is an entirely different matter.

So does this mean that I being a pure fighter type can use scrolls if i have a high enough spellcraft?

Keep in mind that spell craft would be a cross-class skill to a fighter... meaning your maximum skill points (without gear modifiers) would be (level+3)/2 ... that would take a long time to get something close to a decent percentage versus the the "25 + spell level" using UMD.

Pretty sure you cant. I have a great spellcraft, am an arcane caster, but druid scrolls are red to me. Cant use em.

The reason i ask is i cross train in spellcraft as an rp thing due to his past, eventually he will have over 20 as well as taking epic skill focus, yielding 30 in spellcraft eventually and i was wondering if that meant he could cast scrolls some day?

My understanding was that spellcraft lets you use scrolls inscribed with a spell that is for one of your classes, but is of a higher level than your class level allows. Example, level 4 wizard using a fireball scroll.
Only UMD lets you use scrolls inscribed with spells for a class other than your own. I.e., that same level 4 wizard cannot use a barkskin scroll.
Hope that this is correct.
