Ultravision

Post by Fifty » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:42 pm

I posted a bug report about this, but...

I levelled for the first time in 4 or 5 months a week or so ago, and when I did so I swapped out see invis for ultravision. It now seems that ultravision is bugged, as I get absolutely no effects from it. I only get 4 spells per spell-level, and one of them is therefore useless to me, which is a bit annoying. As I am anticipating at least 3 or 4 months, probably more like 6-7 months before my next level, Iam wondering if this actually IS a bug, if it is likely to be fixed, and if it is long-term buggered, whether a DM will help me de-level and re-level?

edit: to clarify - I can't see through my own darkness spells, and no icon appears in top right of my screen telling me i have ultravision switched on.

I've used Darkness now for the last 4 months, and the spell is working as intended from what I can gather. You don't get the darkness effect (50% miss chance, -x to AC, ect), but you still have trouble seeing through the darkness, from a VFX perspective. It also lets you see much better at night, or in caves.

The spell has never had an icon, afaik.
Always consider alignment as a tool, not a straitjacket that restricts the character.

Moved from Ask the Team.

Moredo is correct, the spell works as intended (with the exception of not piercing the Darkness vfx) and Avlis is not running a custom version of it.

Furthermore, if you are carrying a light source (torch, ring etc.) Infravision won't manifest itself as "improved" sight in the dark. So you might want to get rid of those Kurathene Underpants with Light Bright (20m) White...

It does allow you to detect enemies in the dark, although the visual effect still conceals them. It just means you need to hit tab, to actually see on the computer screen, what your character has detected.

Having a item with immunity to darkness I can agree that though you do not have disavantages of darkness you still see the darkness visual effect.

Ever seen the weird glitch that causes a dimmer light source to take precedence over a brighter light source?

Example: You're wearing two light-producing items, a 15' and a 20' -- same color. You take off the 15' and suddenly it gets brighter around you.

just depends on which you equipped first.
Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

On Ultravision and darkness, I could be wrong, but I seem to recall something like, you see the big cloud of darkness when you're outside it, even with Ultravision on, but when you actually enter it you can see fine, the darkess shrinks to this little spot. That was on a pvp server though, maybe it was a custom script. I have bad luck with it on Avlis- no one ever casts Darkness when I have Ultravision up, only when I don't ;) ... so it could be different here.
