That's excellent news! :)

If something hadn't of been done, most new players would have stopped signing up and the community would have slowly dried up.

This way Avlis will live on, and the general Avlis community will too.

Cheers.

Forgive the storyteller for letting his mind race on, and yea ill join WF...

Clean start scenario...

NWN Avlis

Work towards a big bang moment. for example, demons from the underdark take over southern avlis ((or more)) Utter chaos, goverments collaps, cities taken over by bandit lords/dictators ((ED :P)) Demons rule the lands...

NWN2 Avlis

Start out with just the cities ((time has passed)) the old powers are regaining their lost strengh. Goal... Retake the cities, restore law and order there. The time this takes can be used to recreate the lands as the brave slowly progress in retaking their old teretories from the bandits and demons...

This way you have an excelent explenation why the orders/guilds etc have to be rebuild, and the plot is a tool in rebuilding the world...

Just my 50cent, i just know when i see a nice plot for a grand story ;)

mmm I like it (both the nwn2 avlis and the plotline of Xandors heh)

*wonders with some trepidation what nw2script is going to be like*
;)
And yes, I know it's interconvertable, but I bet it'll be much cleaner to code fresh... MMMM New functions! :D

Like Amiru said, politics, guilds, everything will be a new start. that really sounds like alot of fun. A fresh slate, I look forward to what ever the choice is.
Here is the thing though, it will be hard enough just to keep familiar relationships whole because everyone will be playing a new character and many people will not be re-creating their own character. All that time to establish player-run guilds, etc... it all goes away when characters are not transferred over. How can you have the same feel when all the leaders are gone? Hell, the early days of Avlis NWN2 are going to be difficult. Good luck with that.

By putting time into your characer and making them well-developed, you make them a figure in the history of Avlis. The more you document what the character did, the more immortal it will become.
You know, as long as the history continues you can have a legacy. We all better get that statue made in the likeness of our favorite character in our favorite spot. :D

It looks like to start off with all the cities/areas already in place the team would have to spend months re-creating everything? Or do areas transfer over from NWN to NWN2 easily? I don't see this as possible since just about every custom script, etc has to be reviewed if not entirely recreated.... then Hak paks made up.

Otherwise, is the team going to flesh out all existing areas before NWN2 is released to the players or are they going to start out with just a few areas and work out from there? It seems that the player base would be very large to start so that re-creating alot of the existing areas would be necessary.

Xandor,
Are you saying all buildings stay but some apocolypse has somehow destroyed all the orders/guilds? ...some anarchy that has broken up groups held by goals ... yet it has not destroyed buildings, trees, etc? I dissagree with you on that.

I would think the DM Team needs to put NPCs in place of the guilds/orders current leaders ... pretty sure this is how it all started out when NWN was released years ago. Eventually, player characters earn the right to take over leadership roles in each group/guild/organization.

You'd have to join WF to find out where and when it will be. Doesn't neccesarily have to be a pre-existing nwn1:avlis land, and theres hundreds of thousands of years it could be set in.
Nothing thats worth having in this world comes easily.

Ghengiz is correct. We're up to around 8 pages of discussion on these topics, and we're actually making good progress on time period and issues of characters, etc.

We're not going to repeat it here until it's all over with, so if you want to be part of the discussion, head over there.

Orleron was right. Non-members say interesting things.

Join World Forge. Its a blast reading the events that may come to past. Or how the Shite might hit the fan, or not. The Avlis discussions on WFM is great, an added bonus to the other great content that I have seen.

Forgive the spam! I had this in another thread and it may have been the wrong place.

Having had several bad experiences with Pay Pal and the like, I'm under orders from my partner not to use them again.

This NW2 talk is getting me excited. I would love to subscribe to WF in the good old fashioned way by sending money ... is there a street address ... and can you use cheques as well as cash? This would be from England, btw, but I can send dollars.

To those of you worried that Avlis NWN2 will mean "the death of Avlis NWN1" I say on the contrary; it will guarantee it will evolve and live on for years to come and not die the slow death it was otherwise doomed to.

I love the Avlis world, I love what your team has done, But unless you offer a free 5 day trial on the WFM, stop pushing it.

I don't buy sight unseen EVER!

as for NWN 2 amd Avlis, I look forward to it and Disapointed too. As there are far to many Questions i want answered and it seems there on the WFM Fourm,
But that is still no reason to buy it. Just to read a fourm. I'm sure News will trickle down to the free fourm somehow.

This is not a rant! just an Observation

Perhaps you are unaware that Avlis operates on donations and subscriptions to WFM alone? The generosity of those that subscribe is what allows all the rest to play Avlis for free.

Think of WFM as a "subscription to Avlis" if you like; personally I've never read a single article on it or its predecessor until now.

Ok I'm sorry

But I would still like to see what this WFM first. It doesn't sound interesting to me. If you want a donation to play, I Would freely give it.
