Everyone who is dedicated to Avlis won't leave because a better graphic game comes out. As long as everyone keeps advertising, and the word gets out, I don't think it will hurt Avlis too bad. Most people who are really interested in a good RP server, won't let newer, better games get in the way.

example: I have a new computer, awsome...good everything, I bought with the idea of playing new good graphic games. I still have games that I own that I haven't even installed yet.

Overall I think it will hurt Avlis, but hopefully not to much.

Is there any chance that Avlis will be converted to NWN2, albeit eventually, I realise that it is ALOT of work, but I was just wondering.

Still gonna play Avlis no matter what happens, haven't even bought any new games in so long, I don't think my comp knows how to run anything other than avlis now...

Would be nice to not have square heads any more though

I'm looking forward to NWN 2, and I look forward to finding a good pw. But I also get saddened by the fact that it's not Avlis..

as for people leaving Avlis, I don't think that will happen, it seems that most people value the Team, Community, players and backdrops far more than a new sparkly game. But I love sparkly things! :P

Ok I wasn't around when the previous discussion took place, so just my 2cc's, for what it is worth:

The value of Avlis is in the community, both DM's and players. Whatever happens it will still be great. The huge boost of turning to NWN2 would be, however, the possibility to attract new players. It's that simple, almost nobody starts playing a MUD today, even if muds are as rocking as they used to be in the early 90's. And old-timers slowly burn out and switch to something, just as many of us did some time ago, from MUD's to Avlis.

It will of course be Orl's decision what to do, and I think I am aware of most con's of this option (yes, I read the previous thread). Then again - a new Avlis in a new, later timeframe, and with a fresh start to everyone - w00t!

If I ever edit a post it most probably cause of the typos. I make a hell lot of them when I write.

OK, I don't know squat about the technical side...

Why do NWN servers have a practical limit of 40-60 players?

Is it the program?

Is it the servers?

I was just curious if NWN2 would be able to address this limitation.

ever played on a server with 60 people?? it isn't fun as you tend to have ALOT of lag :D

It would more likely be the NWN engines ability to handle the amount of players on the server, i suppose NWN2 will proberly allow more players, but the high end graphics will make it a doozey for some lower end machines.

Arg... please edit your URL and add www. in front of avlis.org.
