It gets tiring to listen to it at some point.

It's just a matter of scale. Avlis uses some custom music as well, but only 9 or 10 tracks total, and only in a few places. The ones most people hear often are the T'Nanshi theme, and the Ferrell Theme, I think.
On Hades, we have closer to 40 custom tracks in, and will only rarely use a default NWN track.

The theme is okay, but I hear it too often.
Most of the NWN music is pretty good, but I'd really love to hear more custom tracks myself. Although there are some amazingly underused battle tunes that are really very nice.

I tend to have my own music playing on the stereo so I don't really care.
However, one thing I will say about the NWN music is that it can at times give away that you're about to be attacked. Handy, but a bit cheesey.

I know what you mean there. That's a situation where I just try to RP it as if my character "hears the sounds of battle nearby." Usually the battle is closeby enough that it's reletively plausible.

heh, yeah I do this too, it's all about making sure that the relative volume levels are right so that you can hear what is going on

I always turn off the music - I find it distracting.

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

I usually have Pandora running in the background. I just had a run of spectacular stuff on my playlist. Sometimes it sucks when you come across a crappy tune and have to alt+tab out to kill it, but overall it's been good for my NWN experience.

I didnt mind the theme at first but after a while it really got to me and eventually turned the music off all together. If I listen to anything now it's CDs or MP3s

I can deal with the NWN songs ok - that is all except the one you hear in taverns. That one makes me crosseyed!
It is nice to hear the music for full immersion, but lately I find myself making my own Winamp playlists - mostly made up of Coil. It's dark, ambient, soft and atmospheric. Perfect.
