Elvish word for Pirate?

Post by Xeo » Tue Jan 24, 2006 5:52 pm

Looking to find the word for Pirate in Elvish.

I done a long long search for it.... Can't seem to find it or unless its something that Orleron or a team member who would need to develop the word to be placed into Avlis's Elvish language system.

Thanks

You can also suggest a couple words that mean pirate in Avlissian elvish, player input has affected the languages in the past.

Also, you can sometimes combine words to make a word, but are you considering this from the pirate's perspective or a commoner's perspective? I'm far from an expert on Nanshilae, so please correct me, but you could use:

Nirgoonva - "Sea bandit"

Goonvaquitha - "Bandit fish"

Knowing Nanshilae, I'm probably missing some apostrophes in there. Look through the list of words and find a word or combination of words that might fit what you're looking for and post them here.

"Bandit" is Goonva.
"Sea" is Nir.

"Bandit of the Sea" (Sea Bandit) is Goonva'Le'Nir.

Nirgoonva

That is perfect!

Kinda word I was looking for.... It it can be confirmed with the apostrophe's that would be great!

But in meantime I will check out Orleron's thread on Nanshee lingo

I like Rain&Clouds proposal. :D
Might be too: Nir'zonoya, Eni'olle'Nir, Yur'Nirquitha, Nir'Shooli'Thayt...
None of them is real "pirate" word though... :?

But they may not be a "Word" for Pirate in Elven. Though through translastion it would mean from Elven to Human it would mean SeaBandit.

In human and halfling talk we would say Pirate. *I would think. :P

Yeah, I think it's more about how it sounds, than real and direct translation of word 'pirate'. ;)
Pick what sounds good and gives you the best association to a 'pirate' word. :D

Oops! Sorry R&C, for some reason, when I read yours, I read it as "Guv'nah." Props to you on it (and shame on me for not paying attention to detail)! I didn't mean to just run right over you. I'm not sure Xeo knew what you meant by it, at the time.

In Nanshilae, the primary noun comes first, followed by any adjectives/secondary nouns that modify it.

There is no precise translation of "pirate" into Nanshilae, so we have to make do with the closest approximation.

"Goonva'Nir" isn't bad, at all. It fits the grammatical rules. * shrugs * Use either that or "Goonva'Le'Nir". ;)

I could fathom the word "Goonva'Le'Nir" being foreshortened through common usage to something like "Goonvanir" or just plain "Goon" :D
