Need a bit of help please....

Post by nwmblondy » Sat Jan 14, 2006 5:37 pm

Ok i just read a post about what happened when somone looted a house and came unstuck... noone was very sympethetic to him, which is why i'm not holding my breath here... But i was looting a house, more specifically Timo and Kima's farm near Derringtons Keep, and err now it won't let me back out, I broke the door down from the outside, but I cant break it down from the inside, all my weapons are ineffective. If anyone has any ideas that'd really help as I can't play Avlis whilst im going mad in what is practically a (very comfy) jail cell...

Timo and Kima's house? :? Lucky for you they are not around anymore :)

My best suggestion is to log out, wait an hour and then log into another server, or hope a nice DM sees this and 'ports you out.

Well, if you log out I can't help you :)
Next time also report who your PC is.

Breaking into houses of other PC's is not allowed and is a bannable offence!

I didn't even know it's possible to break in...
I thought the success against DC of lock is not even checked, you just get the information: You require specific key to open this door - or something like it... :?

Yeah, and the doors are plot and indestructible. But Timo was around a long time ago, probably before they thought to make all the doors plot. I've wandered into an old player's house by mistake, and ran out before the door closed.

Player homes are not required to have doors or chests that are plot. Some can be opened if you have enough thieving skill, some require specific keys, some are left unlocked. That is up to the player.

However, for complete peace of mind, I would always suggest plot doors and plot chests, unless you have an IC reason to not do so. Trying to OOC'ly save on costs generally not a good reason. Because:

My experience IG with a door that was accidentaly left NON-plot was that other players went in and broke everything they could, because they could, regularly. One (OOC'ly annoying, now gone) player was even stupid enough to brag to my character about it. This was before the, "Sanctity of Player Housing" ruling. Luckily the chests were plot. No one stole anything.

Since that time, and after the ruling, players have been banned for breaking into player housing and removing contents. It doesn't help the victem when the player with all the stolen goods gets banned.

If you think you may have accidentally stumbled into player housing, don't bust the place up trying to see if any chests are not plot or locked and exploitable. Leave immediately.

I think i've wondered into that same house. But since I'm a lawful monk ... nothing was stolen. And I do mean wondered ... the front door was locked for exit, not for entrance. Fortunately a friend was able to let me out.

I actually never knew it was player housing.

You can tell when you try and pick the lock and it tells you a specific key is required to open the door. I hope you placed everything back. :D

i err dont pick locks, iim a bit more brutal, i havnt taken anything, and i still havnt got out so even if i had id have plebty of time to put anything back. This is mainly due to the fact that from what i gather its an unused house, theres nothing in it anyway.

I think that if that caused Timo's come back (even for a while), nwmblondy should get some medal, not punishment. ;) If he/she didn't take anything from the house of course. :D
