Introducting World Forge Magazine!!!

Post by Orleron » Thu Jan 05, 2006 1:59 pm

It has been a long time in coming, and now it is finally here! World Forge Magazine is a reality! You may get there through this link: http://www.worldforgemagazine.com/index.php We're gold! Launched! Online! Fired up! So step on in and come see what we're doing!

The purpose of this magazine is two-fold. For this community, its purpose is to keep supporting Avlis. Just as before, when you joined fanfic, you mostly did it to support the community. Now it is the same thing with World Forge. The old fan fiction site has been merged into the magazine. Second, for the world at large, this magazine is an opportunity for people to get some experience with posting their work on games and gaming. World Forge Magazine seeks to give unpublished authors a chance to show their stuff by putting up articles on their home made campaign worlds, as well as thoughts on game design and game mastering. You can find a lot more information on this on the front page of the site. (You don't need to be a member to see the front page.)

The new site has a lot of features that the old one did not have. First off, you can pay what you like! Right now, there's an option to pay $5, $10, or $20 per month, and I should be soon getting to work on an option to pay $50/year. It also has its own set of forums, and much more.

If you are not yet a member of the old fan fiction site, you can join now! The new site accepts credit cards directly! It is not reliant on PayPal.

If you are already a member of fan fiction, your password for the new site has already been emailed to you. If you did not get it, PM me your username and I will get it to you. Old members of fan fiction are automatically transferred to the new magazine. You oldbies have four options:

1) You may cancel your membership at will.

2) You can do nothing. You keep paying your membership on PayPal at $5/month as it has been since you joined Minstrel Fiction.

3) You may cancel your membership and re-subscribe under PayPal with one of the new options: You can choose to pay $5, $10, or $20 per month.

4) You may cancel your membership and re-subscribe with a credit card for $5, $10, or $20/month. We now accept Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover, and JCB.

Last but not least, there are some acknowledgements. First, I want to thank Manuel the White for constructing the site. He put a massive amount of hard work into it, and though you may not be able to see the extent of his work, the administrators of the site are blessed with tons of tools for managing your memberships and your articles, among other things. Second, I want to acknowledge TripleAught, the Chief Editor of the site. He did a grade A job of cleaning up the text and getting it posted on time for launch. Kit our other editor for the site is still fulfilling his role as fan fiction editor, and he has been helping TripleAught.

Staff positions may open on the site. Right now we don't need anything at the moment, but we will let you know if we do. At this point, head on in and check it out!

I just want to add a quick note to what Orleron has said.
There is one thing that we need: Your Submissions.

If you have a world setting, article, or fiction that you want to contribute, send me an email or a PM.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all over there. :D

I've looked into it. There seems to be a bug that doesn't let you log in after you've created the subscription. (Along with a 404 error along the way for confirmation.)

I've written Manuel several emails about it and it should be fixed asap when he can get to a console to do it.

In the meantime, if you want to hold off on making new accounts, that might be good. For the three or four of you that already did, we'll make sure we get you up and running asap.

Apologies for the mixup.

You are an old member. Your login just worked for me. I'll re-send you the password. It's case sensitive.

Update:

I pulled the trigger on the launch a few hours too early. The subscription script still has a couple last-minute things that it needs done. That's why people cannot log in after subscribing. The site will be useable by old members until the fix for new members is implemented hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

Still says 'Login Disabled' for me.

Edit: The link from the email didn't let me login. The one from above crashed me out first time I logged in, but when I reloaded it, I was logged in successfully. :?

I can't get in either. I checked my password for the old fanfic site (god bless Firefox) and used the same one and it didn't let me in. I tried with both IE and Firefox and both returned the same "Cookies must be enabled error". I checked my cookies and they are enabled. Any ideas? Oh and http://www.worldforgeonline.com is simply linking to the old Fanfic front page. I'm guessing you knew that though.

Yes, I knew that. The index.php must be there for the next couple days.

Your old fanfic password will NOT work, btw. You need to use the password that I mailed you. Your username is the same, but the password is not.

And of course, the password is case sensitive, just fyi.

I should have known that, sorry boss. Who do we request a new email from? I can't find it anywhere. Not even in my junk folders.

Ok, np. I'll PM you your password. :)

EDIT: Actually, I don't have you on the list of people who belong to the site.

Did you use a user name other than your Avlis boards name?

Hi,

If you signed up for an account AFTER Orleron's announcement but do not have access, send me a PM and I'll take care of you.

If you have not signed up for an account, feel free to do so now. I've tested the 2Checkout integration extensively and it's working like a charm. Paypal should not have any problems either but I didn't test it quite as much.

As always, let me know of any problems so they can be addressed.

Thanks,

- Manuel
