Gamespy issues?
Is anyone else having issues with Gamespy? When I direct connect, I get "Connection error: Could not translate address." When I try to go through the Join Internet Game button, I get "GameSpy Disconnected, please Retry." Help?

Re: Gamespy issues?
I often get those messages the Could not translate address i get when i use ASK first time. If i then try again it loads ok.Zebranky wrote:Is anyone else having issues with Gamespy? The GameSpy Disconnected, please Retry message is caused for me by my fire alarm (zone alarm).
The annoying one for me is when i log on with game spy now EVERY time it takes ages checking my played ID. Then i get the message "cannot connect to master servers". If i ignore the mesage it still runs ok so its just another gamespy annoyance for me.

I'm very sure I don't have a firewall running, but at the same time, I've been having issues with other games. Maybe I'll look into it and see if Comcast are being wankers.

I get that now on my Backup PC (XP Pro, not SP2, but with ZoneAlarm). Not sure if it was one of the patches on NWN or ZoneAlarm, but it didn't do that until fairly recently. I have a set of shortcuts which used to work, but now the only way to connect is with Direct Connect. Bit of a pain typing in the passwords each time.
Thus far, my main PC (XP Pro, SP2, no ZoneAlarm, or Linux FC4) doesn't do that - with either OS.
I wish I knew what causes it to happen - it is extremely annoying.

Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.

Go figure... a reboot fixed it. For anyone who's curious, 47 days of uptime on Windows 2000 Pro = "please... reboot me... *coughsputterdie*".
