Taking submissions for first issue of new online magazine

Post by Orleron » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:56 pm

We may not have a name just yet, but we are starting to take submissions for the first issue. The issue will have several sections, and we welcome submissions for every one of them:

1) Featured World - This is the cover story. Submit an overview of your world's features and a small background story. Also tell how long it has been played and in what games. Be creative and have fun with exposing your creation!

2) World Building - Articles about world design.

3) Game Master's Corner - Articles about DM'ing/GM'ing.

4) Editorial - General mismosh articles. Editorialize about anything in virtual worlds or games.

5) Featured Fiction - an optional section featuring a short story submission

6) Game Design Symposium - Articles about the strategies of world building on computers and in pnp. I think it would be neat if one day this could evolve into an academic section on world economies and game design, and maybe the bridges between pnp and CG.

Submit all articles to kit@avlis.org, and cc them to exec@blackparadox.com.

I don't know if it really belongs here but does the new site accept machinima?

Wikipedia wrote:Machinima (a portmanteau word for machine cinema and/or "machine" "animation") is both a collection of associated production techniques and a film genre (film created by such production techniques).

As a production technique, the term concerns the rendering of computer-generated imagery (CGI) using low-end 3D engines (as opposed to high-end and complex 3D engines used by professionals) in video games (typically, engines in first person shooters games have been used). Consequently, the rendering can be done in real-time using PCs (either using the computer of the creator or the viewer), rather than with complex 3D engines using huge render farms.
Basically, 3D movies made using, say, NWN as a graphics engine.

<Nob> That's why it's such a great idea, Zeb.

I have an idea I've had for a while that might fit this. I just need about 8 hours or so to do some test coding and maybe another 4 to work on the article. Is there a deadline for the first issue?

We'd ideally like to be able to have an issue in the first week of December. I will probably be writing a couple of the first issue's articles myself, because turnout is low at the moment.

PM me your article idea.

On machinima, no, we will not be supporting audio/video files at first.
