Questions on judicial system of Grantir

Post by darthmullet » Tue Sep 06, 2005 2:17 am

I'm trying to create a more exact history for my character, and was wondering about the way grantir worked, precisely how the govt. and judicial systems were run. For ex. are there judges and juries...are there even trials? Is there a need for someone to take a neutral stance or act as a mediator in any way?

The strong survive and the weak die. You want something, you take it. Thus "crime" is a relative stance, based on who was the victor. You kill your rival and take his property... you won, therefore, no crime. You try it and fail, well... you're dead. Pretty simple and straightforward.

Orl is, as always, the expert, but this is the explanation he gave to me once long ago, in regard to Drotid. In terms of government, there are no elections. WHoever is the strongest challenges the current Voivode. If they win, they're hte new one. If not, nothing changes. Plotting and backstabbing and undermining others are done, but not as respected as overtly seizing power. Shaahesk value strength above all, and thus the one that can hold his own and take power by force is the one that is worthy of respect, even if it's fleeting, and most of the other Shaahesk just view them with jealous greed.

So... basically, it's like Wall Street. Or Middle School. Take your pick.

Fuzz seems to be forgetting Grantir is not Shaahesk, nor is it Drotid.

Grantir is the city of Drangonari.

Of course, I would love to answer your question on the Judicial System in Grantir, but to be honest, I think you're probably the first to ask, so getting the info straight from Orleron would probably be best.

Either way, Drangonari are generally lawful, so survival of the fittest would probably not be the case at all. The prefer strong order and dicsipline.

Also they are intelligent; many are wizards.

In their society men and womean are treated as equals. Hierarchy is only determined by intellectual and magical power.

Grantir itself is a theocracy, where the religious leaders of Angadar are in charge, but the technical 'head of state' is Angadar himself, below him are his two demigod assistants Stephanus and Bobil.

Any legal system would mirror his ideals. In fact, the government is totally run by the church of Angadar.

Whoa shit, my bad! Just got home from working a double shift, and totally thought Drotid for some reason.

I'm a jackass, ignore what I wrote.

One thing I'd like to add is that Grantir is Lawful Evil, and so is it's judicial system I would think.

Bribes etc might be common, as well as merciless punishment.

Thanks Guys...I appreciate the answers. yes, even your's Fuzz :)

I do remember reading in the Drangonari description, that they are very strict when it comes to maintaing order...I guess reading up on the inner workings of a theocracy will be my best course of action.

If you have the time Boss...I wouldn't mind your input if you have some!

I would also appreciate a brief description of how cumbersome the judicial and legislative systems within the city are... i.e. how bureaucratic, etc.?

Anyone with some info on this? I realize it's probably a very low priority thing to respond to...but if anyone feels so inclined, i would greatly appreciate it.
