Post by Arnimane » Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:58 am

Tried Elysia,Ferrel, and wilds tonite... all rather laggariffic it seems. Does this many servers = Heavy DM intervention or is my end buggered?

perhaps we can get some sort of possible explanation from someone on the team.

surely after 3 days of this lagginess (at least on Elysia) they might have it narrowed down somewhat.

TEAM-- please help !!!!!!

please, *begs*

I am not saying it is, just this type of thing happened at my work with a new server that was installed for our handheld scanning system at work that the New server that was installed was not functioning properly.. If I remember correctly these issue have only gotten worse sense the New server went live right, maybe a week or so after?

Just a though and something that from personal experience was a issue for my company. Our server had to deal with 100-300 scanners accessing different routers throughout the building and it was way to much for the server to process even hours after the traffic dwindleds down to low numbers. We constantly were resetting the scanners and servers to try and kill the 5-10 lag time in response..

Again just a though

So to understand, are you saying that there is nothing wrong, and that everything is fine, and that this all comes down a simple case of population increase?

If so, may the Avlis gods all mercy on all our laggy ass souls.

Elysia's doing it again, the fitful beech she is. Shows 19 onboards with a ping of 78 and it times me out...

I believe this statement is indeed correct.

After quite a number of days with hardly any lag (no more than usual), this topic is pretty much a dead horse, in my opinion. 8)

Seems pretty obvious to me that it's not specific to the modules themselves, as it would be a little more consistent in nature.

Well, actually, with the amount of lag at present, it seems more like a problem with the servers not being reset enough, really. All the servers I went to tonight were lag spikey as hell.

I aint bitchin, dont get me wrong. Avlis is free and if I dont like it, I can always log and go watch a movie, but the facts are still the facts.

When a server doesnt get a reset sometimes for days on end, it is a well know NWN's fact that this game eats memory up like it's going out of style, and without at least 1 or 2 restarts per day, you are always going to have this kinda lag.

Peace,
Michael K

Peace,
Well, I did admin on another NWN PW for about 1 year, so I know about the lag thing ;)

However, these servers are run on seperate machines for the most part, right? Well, don't you find it odd that they all start lagging at the exact same time? Plus, when the nwserver executable starts causing that lag, the memory usage is usually through the roof at some absurd amount. I'm sure PJ is aware of this and has already looked into it. In addition, Ferrell was just restarted yesterday.. as were most of the servers over the weekend as well, due to the new p-chest upgrade.

Just my 2 cents on it :)

I understand they are all run on different machines, yence the fact that sometimes they are not ALL lagging. Just being restarted yesterday doesnt mean awhole lot if the machines memory was used up 6 or 8 hours after it was restarted. I dont know the specifics enough to go into detail, but since I also admined and DMed on a PW in the past, I can say that we (the server i used to play on) had 4 scheduled re-starts per day. I know this sounds like alot, but unless there was seriously massive amounts of stuff going on at once, it very rarely crashed or lagged.

I am not and wont ever tell someone how to run their PW, as I understand the reasons for Avlis running things the way they do as far as the restarts go. I only make these facts known, as I am certain they already are. at least to the admins here.

80-90% of the time Avlis rocks. The other 10-20% people just have to deal with.

Thanks,
Michael K
