Dude, relax. I was just trying to explain a point with a little bit of levity. Hence the smiley. Wasn't meant to be at your expense - I was replying to your points in this "discussion." If you took offense to the way I phrased the points, then I'm truly sorry. Though you should realize that I'm the official Avlis Team Jackass (I'm wearing the crown to prove it).Talwin Hawkins wrote:due to the last three posts, i think i might reply. Dm spawns a equilizer off behind us which takes out our lowbie in one hit. errr RP? where?
Ok so we defend our fallen comrade, have a great fight, and finally beat him.
Walk to fallen comrade when another equilizer is spawned. it says the words "move". I cast shadow daze to see if i can disable him. i get dev critted, i die. now my friend heals me. I get dev critted again, even though i dont attack. i actually got healed AGAIN which i was then dev critted a third time and get deathplaned.
So i dont give a flying fuck what the hell you think. When you come out with stupid half assed answers from smart mouths like that then i have no respect. i have throughout the thread tried to be diplomatic and reasonable. i let the discussion go on, and have not interupted.
So maybe if i do see you wearing your tshirt then maybe ill turn around and walk away when someone has an attitude like that.
But maybe you should look at what you wrote a bit more closely. You said the Equalizer asked you to move. How did you respond? With a combat action (casting shadow daze to try and disable someone is not exactly a friendly action). Makes perfect sense for the Equalizer to respond in kind.
Try and look at it from the other side. You witnessed someone take your friend down in one hit. You, a seasoned warrior, and your other friend felled this person, after what you yourself describe as a long hard fight. You and your friend might be a bit spent after this. Then another person shows up, who looks similar to the one you faced. He asks you to move. If it were me, hell yeah, I'd move. Took my friend out in one hit, and it took two badasses like yourselves a lot of effort to take one out? Movin' on up, to the east side...
You went into combat. Did you expect to win just because a DM's on the other side? It's not our job to let you win. It's our job to play the roles of the NPCs of Avlis, so that you can play the role of your PC. And if the role of one of those NPCs (or an army of them) requires us to chop off your PC's arm or leg or head, so be it.

firstly, i accept the appolgy, it sounded like you were taking the piss.
Secondly i was upset about what happened as i completley oppose dev crit npcs, i dont care what they represent.
thirdy i didnt care about losing. I was killed and healed. i didnt move, i was typing a line. i got killed again. im then thinking....auto attack oh well no matter. i was healed and the same thing happened. now this could feasibly be autoattack syndrome which happens alot. but i wasnt told this.
Now to get back to the thread, this was not what i wanted to know otherwise i would of taken it to rants. I wanted people to discuss npcs with dev crit, this did happen mostly untill people picked holes in my actual event. The Dm who this was is a friend and i REALLY did try not to get the whole dm bit involved but with so many people picking holes in how i did this and should of done this i had nothing else to write.
I personally believe i was autoattacked. but this doesnt take away from the arguement of dev crit npcs. i dont feel "griefed" by a person. I feel upset sort of about the use of the dev crit against a group of people who had absolutley zero chance. i think there were much better alternatives.
Anyways. as i said, i appologise if i took it the wrong way, but if you read it back, smiley or not, it doesnt read well, especially from a very high team member.
I am happy if you lock this thread, as it seems to of degenerated quite a bit, and i appologise for that.

You see, that's the key here Talwin.Talwin Hawkins wrote:I wanted people to discuss npcs with dev crit, this did happen mostly untill people picked holes in my actual event.
In general, from what I've read in this long topic, people agree with you. Hell even I agree with you, dev. crit. should be a no-no for regular type spawns (ie. half elf mercs, dwarf mercs, vamp warriors and so forth). But there are none, so that's not much of a discussion..
But in your situation, a situation that involves literary thousands of hours spent plotting. A dev. crit. NPC, spawned and controlled by a DM, who lays out punishment on a small group who were in the wrong place at the wrong time isn't much to talk about.
Would it have been any different if he spawned four of those level 50 Equalizers that all gang up on you and spam Sap? You'd still be stone dead after one round. And I agree with Deider, you shouldn't be able to spot the tough NPCs with floaty names or anything like that. I'm guessing that there must be tons of "heavy resistance/uber equalizer" reports on your guild boards, so that they are tough shouldn't really be news.
Always consider alignment as a tool, not a straitjacket that restricts the character.

Dev Crit
The big problem with Dev Crit is the heniously high DC. You need at least 20 character levels and at least a 25 str, so the DC starts at 27 and goes up from there.
But NPCs arn't bound by these rules, I think. It's probably possible to make an NPC with Dev Crit who doesn't have an insanely high DC. Could you not, for instance, make an NPC with a 10 str who has Dev Crit? In this case the save DC is much lower, and perhaps more makable for the poor meleer who first engages the guy.
If the players don't take that monster seriously, hit them with the one that has nasty Dev Crit. But you might open with one that has "weak" dev crit.
