Open beta for NEW Avlis server!

Post by Orleron » Thu Apr 14, 2005 2:36 pm

Hello CoPaP fans,

It is my pleasure to announce the open beta test for the newest Avlis server, The City of Kuras. Unlike our current areas in Southern Avlis, this place was once capitol of the majestic Kurathene Empire, which has long since crumbled into a group of warring fiefdoms. Only this city remains as a bastion of the old glory that once ruled, and only here can you still find the remnants of the old imperial guardsmen who hold stewardship over the capitol until such day a true emperor can re-unite the fiefdoms and claim the throne.

You will find this place a far cry from the culture of the south. Toran and Senath's followers, both human and dracon, rule here, and they tolerate little sway from those who ascribe to chaos. Order is the Word and the Law, and its solidity is represented by the fortress city that is Kuras.

For the open beta, there is a separate server vault and database, so none of your other characters will have access. Once we go live, which should be in a day or so, you should be able to get there, but with difficulty. We suggest starting new alts there if you truly want to be part of the culture of the North, because it is VERY different.

Enjoy!

It is possible that there are still some bugs that our previous testing has missed. Indeed, that is the point of having an open beta. If you find something that doesn't seem right, please post a bug report. I'll also start a feedback thread for non bug related questions and comments. Also, please keep in mind that this server is by no means 'complete'. Just as the other servers are being updated all the time, Kuras will start from here and continue to grow. What we have at them moment is all the basics - merchants, temples, dungeons, etc. Once we go live, the server will begin to expand, with new areas, quests and NPCs.

Have fun,

I just wanted to stress what Jonezie is saying. He's right on the money.

If you remember back to the days when we started the other Avlis servers, they didn't have quite as much "stuff" as they do now. This is how Kuras will be for a while. It's got basic FEDEX and even a couple of noob quests, and basic merchants with gear to keep you surviving there (at least we hope). That's about it for now, but quests should be coming, and we can always use subcontractors who want to help with this server. For example, I'm pretty positive that the Justicar prestige class quest will be there eventually.

It's up and running, though I don't think the connection info is there. It's not that hard to figure out, though.. ;)

Yeah, the address is easy enough. Not sure on the pass. Could be a couple of variations based off the name. I see some figured it out...heh, I only have one try left.

An email was sent out to the copaplist on Yahoo with the address/password. If you are not on that list, you should request access to it by emailing copaplist-owner@yahoogroups.com.

Hmm, I am a member of the list. Last I got was digest #11 about the items.

Ah, well, was just going to have a quick look anyway.

I thought the Holy Warrior quests were going to be controlled by the Holy Orders of each of the 9 gods? Ergo, you'd have to either be in the Sword of Toran or have their permission to start the Justicar quest.

Deputy, Sword of Toran. Got that one taken care of, just not a whole lot of time to go on lately (work schedule). And I was led to believe that the Sword and the Church were seperate entities.

Just made a character and spend an hour or so on the server.
Even had some DM attention (thank you Jonezie) and had some fun. Managed to do a quest and noticed and reported several bugs to our friendly DM.

It looks awesome, great work avlis-team! :)

The question was directed at Orl, not you. :P
I already know all about your character... who made you a Deputy in the first place?

The Churches and Holy Orders are seperate, but quite a while back (like... a year ago) it was decided that the Holy Warrior PrCs would be controlled by the PC Holy Orders, with the exception of Paladins, since they can take levels in it from Level 1. Hence you have to join the CoB to become an Equalizer, or be in the OoV to become a Dominator. Similarly, the 3 PCs that have Justicar levels are all in the SoT, and could only pursue the PrC after serving in the Order.

I was wondering if that paradigm is going to be changed, and any putz with the right name in their deity field will be able to just do a scripted quest and take levels in PrCs that until now are pretty much reserved to heavy RP characters that have worked their asses off to earn the right to wear the special armor.

Oh, and on a total aside, any chance the Justicar armor could be changed? because it really is attrociously ugly, and the cape is a bad move if you want to have Dracon Justicars.

The fact that the quest is in Kuras does not change the fact that SoT will be the key to it.

I never got the password mail, I shot a note to the yahoo group owner and will check it out when I get a reply.

On a (somewhat) related note about alts. I seem remember seening something about a requirement to send in an Avlis application if you were creating a new character to play.

Obviously that is no big deal for a beta look, but if we make a new character that we plan on playing are we supposed to send in an new Avlis application? Or am I remembering wrong?

We do not have any policy like that, no. You can create as many characters as you like. If we had that policy, NH4 would be banned by now. :P

Good work Jonezie! And everyone else who contributed! :D

Time for a more civilized setting, no war, no Malekite sacrifices, no discussions on balance or who's right, who's wrong... just cold hard law.
