@ Mikey, when we become DM's, as Silk said, we've got all the secrets and all the plotlines that's going. At that time, our characters probably have become NPC's for all intensive purposes becuz we are controlled by DM's who knows everything behind the scene, so I don't know what the problems might be?MikeyRight wrote:The only additional $0.02 that I think is missing, and that likely started this whole war, is that it is unfair for a DM to post NPC comments that support a character that he/she plays.
So, DMs, I think you guys all do great work creating Avlis, running adventures, etc. You have lots of power. Those of you that play characters as well generally have powerful characters. Don't let the two get involved with each other. If your character is the subject of disucssion, then respond in character, just like we would. Please don't use your DM position to advance the interests of your character. If you want to establish that your character acted according to the "rules of society", then lobby another member of the Avlis team to post as an NPC supporting you, just like any of us players would need to do. To use your position to defend your own characters actions is just bad roleplaying.

As a matter of fact, players will repidly rise in "power" far quicker than any DM's character, because the DM's spend their time working for you.
We spend a lot of time DM'ing and giving the players of Avlis the immersive and questing that we all find enjoyable.
I do not know of any DM who has abused his position, and posted "unfair" comments in the Boards.
You will never see this happen on Avlis - we have the finest DM's, and the worlds best Role Players here and you can be confident that you will always have a "fair go".

For the record... I have three characters. The highest level is 10th, and was played to this level before I became a member of the team.
The other two are 1st level and 1st level.
I havent played my main character for more than a hour or two of real time in months. (I even have given a IC reason for being gone)
Also, I use a different account when I log in as a DM,,,

PCs
By reading all these, a question was born in my mind...
Is it also forbidden for a PC to post a comment using the name of another PC without his/her approval?
(sounds evil intent, but I'm sure many have thought of it)
I know that this could bring chaos, but its in RP limits, isnt it?
What DMs say about that? I would really like to hear some thoughts...

I will not let anybody lay words into the mouth of my characters. They are mine to play as I see fit.
My mistakes to make with them!
Just imagine somebody takes the names of 50 characters and posts inflamatory insults with them against other characters... instand agression.
I insulted Kharak with my 4th Horseman. But it was my choice to make, and mine were the consequences to bear. I was demasked, and as a consequence, I am aware, I may very well be unable to ever adventure with that char in a group involving members of the Order of Gorethar.
Choices like this I will not let anybody do for me.
(except DM's. They may twist my char development by plots. But that is their prerogative. And I hope they make wise chices wich are fun for all involved. I reserve for my part the right to ask them why something wich was not fun for me was necessary or happened.)

its just a thought
What if,let's say, my character is a priest and worships a god of deceit, trickery and lies.. IC he is entitled to do such things, right?
Personally I wouldnt use the boards for this, but I see many people using the forum ,rightfully, to expose in a way their PC personality, opinions, etc. Why a character like the one i describe is not allowed to "use" it too in order to create havoc, as part of a more wide plot...?
So , after being more specific, my question is: Is this scenario out of avlis RP limits?
Honestly, I am just curious about that ...
PS.

No, you can not, ever post something for another PC. That's not your PC to play and you simply can not speak for him or her.Mistcaller wrote:What if,let's say, my character is a priest and worships a god of deceit, trickery and lies.. IC he is entitled to do such things, right?
The most you could do, is post something from your character, reporting something the PC in question said. Of course the PC in question is free to refute what you said he said.
Guys it's very simple, dont make it hard.
YOU CAN ONLY POST FROM YOUR CHARACTER.
No NPC's, commoners, other characters, deities, birds, ghosts, faeries, the homeless, or even Dok.
ONLY YOUR CHARACTER - Leave all the podantic reasons and IC stuff while your ONLINE.. If you want to RP impersonating someone, do it online... not in the boards!

Well..welcome to Boredom... no more rumors spread by PCs disguised as Commoners..jadeia wrote:Guys it's very simple, dont make it hard.

But i guess it was to much for your imagination to think that someone can go disguised to Inns and simply spread rumors...
Hopefully you have fun controlling all the Tavern posts and censor every NPC-saying that might their appear.
So everyone who wants so spread a little rumor had to wait till a DM is online.. then call him to an inn to play all the commoners that are there and listening to the Story of the PCs.
No more payed Agitators... a proffession that seems unknown to Avlis

To bad for all you guys that play in times when no or only a few DMs are online..
I wonder when the 1st DM will say" I have no time to play commoners for your Rumor-spreading.. i run a quest"
You all act as if Rumors would endanger the whole world of Avlis

So much for the "Freedom of speech"

If you are wondering where your freedom of speech went go read the patriot act.
Other than that buck up. It is the way things are going to work around here. Having pc's post as npc's makes things too confusing and leaves too much room for misinformation. While I find your idea for "rumors" witty, there is too much potential for abuse, and too many directions things can go.

Re: Avlis policy on: Speaking for NPCs
Ok I think a bump is in order here, especially with all the new players around.
Please do not make posts from a perspective OTHER than YOUR character, this includes making posts in IC forums (taverns etc.) that are entirely written in third person, but describe scenes including multiple PC's and NPC's. Except if you make it very clear from who's perspective you are describing it.
WRONG, these types of flavor posts are the domain of DM's:
"Three people are sitting at elf gate discussing what cookies go with their cheese"
or
"A shadowy figure sneaks unseen in the darkness" (I personally detest posts like this, since if you're unseen, why broadcast it, which implies someone could see you)
OK, as long as we know from whose perspective the post is written:
"Quizzically Cadoodle can be seen sitting at elf gate with two other people discussing what cookies go with their cheese"
or
"Those with sharp eyes can see Quizzically Cadoodle trying to move around stealthily in the darkness"
Game on.
