Forum going down for maintenance in 2 hours
The forum will be temporarily down for maintenance as I perform a full reindexing of the searching tables. Once complete, all posts prior to migration will be searchable again. In fact, some that were lost during our last website migration will also magically reappear in our search results.
The process may take a long time to complete. Given the size of the database, it may drag on for several hours. The size of the database will also increase dramatically during this time. This should not affect the speed of the server too much. However, searches that take a long time will cause additional overhead.
Use your brain and REFINE YOUR SEARCHES.

Wow, Manuel - I hope you didn't have to sit and watch the re-indexing for all that time.
Thanks - good to be back.

I'm glad it's back up too. I was afraid a lynch mob may have been forming. Darn sure you weren't going to find me in IRC!
Yes, it took longer than anticipated. With the overnight failure, I lost about 6 or 7 hours right there. But the real issue was that, initially the script was running at a goodly rate. As the search index tables got larger, the script began to take longer and longer to do the rebuild functions (which it had to do around 12,000 times). There's a big diference between 2 seconds and 17 seconds when we're talking about that many increments.
I also found out what caused the tables to fail to import during webiste migration (duplicate keys likely due to server lag) and blew them away. In the future, I will be optimizing the search tables using various forms of logic. This will trim down the size and speed up search results with minimal impact on results returned.
Have a great weekend,
- Manuel

*cheers* Thank you, thank you, Manuel!
And BTW, in case someone didn't say it before... the post you put up, last night was pretty funny.

Thank you?
(does that make sense in the context of his post?)
Err... barring that,
WE LOVE YOU!

OK guys, another time perhaps.
Seriously, thanks a lot Manuel. It was Hell, but we got through it - a little IRC, a little RL, we managed to survive.
