from what i have noticed it always says that as your swinging away as you never do damage. but every few swings wood will begin to pile up on the ground... i usually turn the sound down so i dont heard my pc whining about the weapons not working..

This happens to me occassionally when mining gems. Some deposits do this, some don't. Either way it still mines the gems.

Could it be related to the tree/gem deposit/whatever? Some of them have a wrong property assigned or something?

yes, it will always say that your weapon is ineffective. Just look at your feet after a couple of swings, you will see the wood there (if you are swinging at a cuttable tree).

Nothing to see here... Move along.

Seriously, this is a standard server message when cutting lumber for crafting. You can't actually damage the trees... Yet. *looks up at the powers that be*

It happens to us all, and is nothing to worry about... Aside from being a bit annoying to hear for minutes on end, while you're gathering wood to craft.

*coughs* Technically, I think you can't damage the tree when you're chopping wood with the proper tool... But, back in my first days on Avlis, a friend and I were looking for a particular kind of wood. When we found the tree, we clicked on it and it was empty (much like when you pick herbs or loot drops) so... hoping to be able to have some wood anyway, we took out our blades and hit the tree.. eventually the tree "fell" --- it disappeared. And well, it goes without saying that we didn't get any wood from that...

Good thing we were still newbies and didn't have burning blades yet! :D

So yeah... use a blade and you will damage the tree.. I think.

What's funny though, is to hear your character shouting their battlecries before chopping wood...
