The correct axe has a unique power, which when activated near a tree will put you into chopping mode. If the axe does not have this power, you have the wrong axe. If this does not work you're either too far from the tree still, or have selected a wrong tree (no real way but experience or a teacher to tell you which trees are right or wrong).

In game. From someone else, or by just experimenting till you drop. Think logically and try to talk to other people. Most will at least give you some hints to get you started without requiring anything in return. There are also guilds online for most crafts, which might be interesting to join. See the guild-pimping thread elsewhere on this board (haven't got a link handy atm, sorry).
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

Thanks for the quick answers, but Iv got some new ones to answer

Do I need actually to learn the skill(like when leveling in NWN)or do I just need to do the actual crafting realtime without any new skill learning and it will advance itself like when creating a sword

and second I heard something about Martial Weapons profficiency, is there somethin special about it when considering crafting.

Thx for answers

the skill builds up as you do stuff just like xp.

you need the martial weapons feat to be able to use the mining pick

Jerto has the answer to the first part of your question.

As for the second part... you can just go in, but it wouldn't be recommended. A better course of action would be to talk to a few PCs and go in with a group. There's always someone heading into the sewers.

If you see Guli Thungaldos running around, send me a tell and I'll be happy to take you down there.
