question regarding blackguards
I have not played too much lately, but I was thinking about creating an alt. Due to time constraints of RL, I tend to stick to my one character which is a monk. I have been level 12 for centuries and happy with that. The main question is whether or not a blackguard has to be chaotic evil or tied to Maleki in the world of Avlis. Ive been kicking the can around and been thinking of a good background for a possible blackguard. To give more info, Im leaning towards a scarred individual who turns towards the blackguard ways, but is not chaotic. I will develop the rest IC as he evolves. Anyway my friends, let me know if this OK. Ive read many of the forums and most lean towards CE, but there is not any further information that says otherwise unless Im mistaken.

The character I want to develop will most likely in the end be tied to many things, however, I want him to go more insane later as he gains more power. Ive seen many characters that are mad played by other classes, but they are not subject to any Order. I want to cultivate the madness in a long process, but yet not tied to anything. I know this sounds like a PG thing, but it is not. Ive been here too long and I know. I just was wandering if this is acceptable to go Blackguard without being Chaotic in the Avlis universe.

Yep, alignment wise, he sounds like more of a Dominator in the making, if you ask me.

The straight answer is no. Blackguards are the holy warriors of Maleki, and thus you must be both CE and worship Maleki to qualify. However, there are other evil holy warrior PrC's - the Annihilator is NE and follows Aarilax, and the Dominator is LE and follows Valok.
On the other hand, the character you're describing sounds like he wouldn't worship any sort of deity... in that case, i doubt a PrC is needed. A regular fighter would suffice - perhaps throw in a few levels of barbarian, using the rage to represent bouts of insane madness?

you canot go wrong with straight monk.
They get better and better with age. If you made it through the low lvls you are only just barely seeing the real benefits of being a monk.
Monks can fall from grace too without resorting to any change in your class.
Take a look at the order of shadow.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

Ok, I know you guys are going to be all over me, but here goes. Im looking to create a barbarian/sorcerer/blackguard. I know that might sound crazy, but I think a good story could come about it. Like I said, Im just kicking the can around. So let me know if this alright. Sorry, I got a few days off and the wife is at a conference. Let me know if this is acceptable.

It will work, IF:
A) You worship Maleki
B) You are CE
C) You are accepted as a Blackguard by the Temple of Maleki
D) You RP it well (actually, if you've got this, all of the above will fall into palce).
As long as you got all of it, you're free to do whatever you want with your blackguard character. Good luck!

I had been told in the past that all blackguards had to be a member of the reavers before they could qualify for the PrC. It's also a long, hard road. Ask anyone who has a blackguard or those that are aiming for it. It's worth it in the end though
