"Hello there,

Right now, all over the Avlis, NPCs are hurting. They are suffering from lag and a severe CPU cycle shortfalls. They lack even the most basic of low packet loss. In many nations of Avlis, 4 out of 5 NPCs will be despawned within the next two hours.

All that is needed is someone who will look into the eyes of a needy NPC and say, 'Yes, I will help.'

Someone like you.

With each passing day, these unfortunates are finding it increasingly difficult to stay spawned. Cut off from extra server resources many are forced to make choices about which essentials they can afford: wandering aimlessly, yelling out random sentences or attacking the nearest enemy PC. Choices no one should have to make. Despair takes the place of hope.

It doesn't have to be this way. Right now, non-living, non-breathing NPCs need your help. Please, look deep into your heart and make the decision to become a Save the NPCs sponsor, and for as little as $5 a month (or about half the cost of the average movie ticket), you can help stop the suffering and give deserving NPCs a better life today, and a chance for the future.

Best of all, you'll actually see the impact that your sponsorship is having. You'll receive regular reports on server improvements at Avlis. And thanks to your contribution, you will keep your NPC out of the way of lag related deaths or Instant Lag Death Syndome.

Your non-tax-deductible contribution can be sent directly to the Avlis (via Paypal) by going to http://fanfic.avlis.org/ .

Imagine the excitement when we tell a special NPC that someone wants to make a difference in its life!

Please. There are so many precious NPCs waiting. Please, won't you fill out the sponsorship form today ( http://fanfic.avlis.org/ )? Right now? The life of a NPC is all too short. Extend a hand, and extend the hope."

I give to this fund and the love I feel deep down when I visit these poor, unfortunate souls is worth every penny! Why just the other day I saw little Cort running around in a brand new pair of boots!

Give people, give all you can. I only wish I could give more and buy Jerto some parents.

Save the NPCs

Post by Urgelt » Tue Dec 07, 2004 8:22 pm

Manuel? Is that you? I didn't know Arboria had a postal service. *grin*

I contributed to the server fund just two months ago. I'll do it again soon, when I've saved some milk money. But... where can we see all this promised information about the servers? I'm curious as to what we're running Avlis on, and what room for growth exists for those platforms.

*sobs* I don't want those poor starving NPCs to die off, I need their quests, plots, and XP... oh and their fedex.

Will gladly contribute to these poor misused souls.

Afterall, it would only be wrong for me to spend every free hour of my waking life playing something and then not contributing anything.

Manuel, I have always thought our characters should face it off just on the premise of their names. But you have touched my heart. Oh wait, that's just gas buildup from beer. :D

Tell ya what. If someone redoes that thing and removes Sally Struthers and places in say....oh...a smiling Jenna Jameson I'll donte $30. I know for a fact that Struthers eats babies!

Maybe I better browse a few Jenna websites. For....research purposes, yeah, that's it.

EDITED cause I couldn't spell 'should' properly. Damnit what a long day at work.

I havent played in months and i'm still subscribed to fanfic and i intend to keep it that way. The Avlis world needs donations to stay alive and the small regular *to count on* donations are more helpful regarding being able to plan into the future. I didn't find it but Orl said somewhere he prefers regular small amounts than bigger one-time donations. Not that those are wrong - on the contrary. Every bit helps and what you are ready to donate will be used to enhance the avlis experience ;)

Just to clarify what's up with the fanfic subscription ( I must admit i have been on fanfic just once : to join up  ) form my view.

I know i will be hated by many now but here it is:

I suggest that for every new player that wants to join to be NECESSARY that he joins the fanfiction site. And for the old players to have a mean so that they all join the fanfiction site or have characters wiped. You are creative you ll think of something. An idea I thought just now is giving each one that has joined the fanfiction a number that he has to remember so that he can say to a DM if any of his characters is asked in game.
So the DM's can ocasionally ask the players for their numbers in game and if they don't know to have a warning for character wipe

Now that i am reading it again it seems like a laousy idea. Well , you ll think of something better i guess.

I mean if we love Avlis and want to really start enjoying the game without lag and with all the features these people have in mind to give us, i think 5 per month is not that high. If you people can't pay even that, maybe you should stop diminishing the bandwidth of us that care for Avlis.

That was it . You are free to throw on me now the tomatoes, eggs and yogurts.

PS I will join the fanfiction right now

Sorry I need to budjet every single dollar so i can pay for uni. CS:Source, HL2, and Avlis will have to keep me occupied for the next 4.5 years :D. I only think Avlis will last that long hehe.

Maybe if I get good co-op jobs I might be in a better condition to donate

... Extremely Bad Idea, however noble the intent...

I like Avlis, I'm getting to like it more and more each time I login... If it were within my rather tight budget to donate, and join the fanfiction site, It would've been done the day my application to play a character here was accepted...

... Unfortunately, this is not the case. Tis The Christmas Season... And Finances are Strapped Tight.

Following your plan would qualify Avlis as a Pay-To-Play service Still In Beta Developement... Been There, Done That with another project over a year ago, and Definitly Not Doing It Again.

... As stated earlier, Extremely Bad Idea.

Guys, i love Avlis and all but you can't excpect me to give you my PayPal password !!!!!!!

This isn't your Paypal account info but a code provided to you when you subscribe. If you missed it, send me your last name and I'll PM the info to you. Of course, if you want to send me your Paypal account info too...

Thanks,

Hi Sally...
and thank you for caring. God bless you!
I was just talking to my wife the other day, about adopting a little piece of Avlis. We agreed that the best thing ANY person could do, in a situation like this is to give until it hurts and then give just a little bit more. We would like to adopt a building in Mikona.
Please send our contribution to the Mikona temple of Dagath. I hope those dear souls live long and fruitful lives.

with love, Shen Ko

So to publically clear the misunderstanding I ll explain you how it works so that you will not encounter any problems.

Paypal Username:
Paypal Password:
Fanfic Username:
Fanfic Password:

The so called Paypal username is not your ACTUAL paypal username but is the fanfiction's automatic given name
the paypal password is not your ACTUAL paypal password but is your automatically given password for the fanfiction.
The fantic username will be the new username YOU wish to use
and the fantic password is the new password you wish to use as well.

But well , one can be fouled by the above , I had supposed differently that i needed to give my actual Paypal name and passwiord and it seemed to me absturd so i had left it half done. Today i completed the procedure finally :)

Your contributions are having a positive impact on Avlis. In fact, I just received a letter today from a Mikona citizen. See below:

Dear Avlis Supporters,

Thank yoo soo much for giving me a chance to have a better life heer in Mikona. Since you started caring, things have been much better. I now have clothes and enuf food to feed me family.

I can't thank you enuf. I want to tell the whole world about your generosity. Ooh, look down the road there! I think I see one of yoo now! It's a man wearing some black armor with a skull that has a dagger stuck through the side of his hed. He's coming closer. I'm going to go thank him!

Problem

is there a start up fee for using Pay Pal?
I just checked my bank account and the only movement in my account today was signing up for fan fiction. It cost me twenty dollars. I was counting on five dollars. What happened? did all the 20 go to Avlis or did Pay pal eat 15 so they could give five to Avlis?

More importantly is this going to be 20 dollars every month? If so, Im bailing. I am a poor boy.

Yup, I need to talk to the boss to see if I can get a few bucks out of her every so often to help those needy NPC's. Christmas season is bad for the budget, though.

"If you, like, look around you when you're, like, in Avlis and stuff ... you'll see these, you know, dirty children and they sometimes just ... despawn right in front of you!

This one time, I was, like, walking through Mikona or somethin' ... and this one NPC kid, who I wouldn't touch with a gloved hand, just vanishes. I was like, 'OH ... MY ... GOD!' Think of the NPC children!

Sure, some NPCs are stinky or rude ... but, you know, if you're like, not willing to help or somethin' that just ... BAD, I guess.

Let me tell you, you can make lots of of money on the Internet thingy. I mean, like, I'm living proof! That's why I personally stand behind the NPC Campaign ... or whatever."
