initial AC calculater question
yesterday i noticed my AC was 4 points lower than i'd expected it to be.
i took off all AC influencing items (armour, shields blah blah blah) and my base/initial AC was 6.
I'm not thourghourly familiar with the NWN system but I though 3.x rules say that AC starts at 10 and then gets better with all the protective gear.
Can someone set me straight or i'll log on again and verify before submitting a bug.

If your dexterity modifier is negative (Posion?), it gets applied to your armor class as well. So I guess you have been posioned, and have dex 3 (mod -4) now.

AC-calculation/presentation is sometimes flaky. Relogging solves 99% of the issues.

thanks for the fast responses
thanks for your responses.
I should have been explicit ... i'm not currently poisoned but was earlier in the session. healing fixed that. Or are you saying that the effects of poison linger longer than is indicated? (not green in HP bar, stats look healthy)
i guess i was looking for confirmation that 10 is the base/initial AC caculator so i should do math like
base 10
+ tower shield 3
+ full plate armour 8
+ amulet of nat armour +1
gives total AC = 22

Healing the poison fixes it mechanics-wise. However, sometimes the display doesn't show the change. In other cases when you died, you get a substraction that doesn't go away. All such cases are bugs and you can relog to fix it. If your stats are showing normal and your bar is red, there should be -NO- detrimental lingering effect.
And yes: 10 is your base AC...

Your calculation looks OK to me.
I think you need to find out whether this -4 was a one-off bug/glitch that is cleared when you re-log, sometimes that stuff happens from time to time (very rare though). Or if it is a permanent effect, a permanent / reproducable bug has more chance of being solved.
BTW, what is your DEX?

I think the formula is 1 Point of AC / 5 Ranks in Tumble.Chemical-Burn wrote:This may be a little off topic but when is Tumble ac used? I do not see it added to my AC on the character sheet so I do not know if i actually have a higher ac then what it shows...
It's used automaticly within the engine, so you don't have any direct control over it, except to add more skill ranks.
It's handy.

I don't know about Tumble (the above posts conflict on whether its shown on character spread sheet or not). However, there are other types of AC that do not show on the character sheet, e.g. +1 AC due to small stature (halflings and gnomes ... and goblins and kobolds), +1 AC from Dodge feat, etc. However, if you check the combat log and see what rolls actually hit you can verify what your AC was.Chemical-Burn wrote:This may be a little off topic but when is Tumble ac used? Yes I know, my point was simply to say that not all AC bonuses get displayed on the Character Sheer, mainly because they are not universal, e.g. Dodge is not against everyone its only against 1 creature, and AC bonuses vs alignment or AC bonus vs slashing, etc. The Character Sheet can't possible display the actual AC because it is different for different creatures.Anniko wrote:the +1 dodge bonus from the Dodge feat is only against your current/last attacker IE only against the person your currently fighting
And in other cases, e.g. small stature, I have no idea why its not displayed, I think it just depends upon which part of the combat engine the advantage is applied. I don't know about Tumble though. BTW, do you lose that bonus if flat-footed? Same with DEX bonus, if flat-footed that does not apply. Yet, your Character Sheet still shows it.
Summary, to be really certain, check your combat log and see what hit rolls where actually hitting you.
