Themi, and everyone else working on the multiple updates that are happening right now..
Please, take your time and don't feel pressured to get this out. I for one would rather wait and know you've done it as you want it to be done, in the time you feel you can get it done, without rushing things out nor feeling unappreciated for the effort you put in to this. It's a big update with a huge impact on a large number of worlds and servers, so no doubt it will take some time. I know I couldn't get it done any faster.
Meanwhile, I'll keep playing on all the perfectly functional servers that we have available to us in CoPaP, enjoying the worlds! 1.64 will be nice, but not having it for a while does not detract from the experience of playing in any way.
The guys posting asking for updates aren't being deliberately impatient or demanding.. they're excited to see updates, are looking forward to all the new and cool things that are coming, and are just keen to see these things happen.
I do suggest that anyone that feels they've got the skills to help out with such things, fill out a subcontractor application and submit it to one of the CoPaP worlds that you would most like to work on. There's bug fixing, testing and new development, both things that take away time from Themi and the others when they're working on things like patch and hak updates. You might not be working directly on the updates, because that is a fairly centralised job, but testing the updates is every bit as important as doing the actual work, and you may well be able to help out there. Possibly too late this time around, but if you get into it, you may be able to help out with the next one.
In my opinion, the reason it takes longer than many other worlds to update is twofold. One is the sheer size. CoPaP haks are shared between all of the servers, and have a vast multitude of scripts. I think that CoPaP is unique in the world, the largest and most diverse set of servers to be built on a single set of haks by a variety of teams, and that means the amount of testing that is required is many times larger than that required by other worlds.
Another is the dedication to quality of the CoPaP Teams. You should have noticed the dedication to quality in the polished aspect of many of the quests and areas, items, encounters and such. What you cannot see is the dedication to quality behind the scenes as well. This is invisible to we, the users, but it's what makes CoPaP possible. Without the shared dedication to quality, the servers would very quickly fall apart due to incompatibilities, corruptions and bugs.
The tradeoff is that these two things lead to huge amounts of effort being put into developments that other worlds don't want to and/or don't have to. So the cycle may be slower than what you're used to. Asking for updates does get interpreted not as interest and excitement, which I'm sure is how it is intended, but as heckling and pressure, which is something the Team members working on it don't need. Being on the receiving end in such development cycles, I can well know how it feels.
So, to Themi and his fellow workers. We're waiting to see what you come up with, and we're happy to keep on waiting because we know you need the time to get it right, and there are lots of complications such as the server move that make this an even bigger project than the first CEP upgrade, in some ways. We'll be happy once it's done and we're excited to see it, but we'd rather see the quality work than a rush job, and don't want you to feel pressured about this. Take it easy and enjoy it and have fun, we'll be doing the same.
Game on!

Now I'm not sure, but I don't think there has been a simple "Thank You" to the Avlis team....I've seen post eluding to gratitude or expressing it indirectly (and I by NO means want to undermine the good will ment by those post), but I haven't seen a simple "Thank You Avlis team" post yet (though I apologize if there was one I somehow missed)....Soo here goes; I believe I speak for the greater majority of players out there when I say:
" Thank you Avlis team for your efforts and time spent on maintaining and continually developing this server. We all enjoy this unique server and realize you are people who do this out of sheer generosity and love of gaming/rp'ing. Kudos all around, and I hope any buggers butts who complain that upgrading to 1.64 isn't fast enough...get really bad hemmoroids...and fall in mud (vengefull bastard ain't I?)."
*phew* What a long-winded way of going about it....I'm outta breath from just TYPING this post. My apologies to anyone I've sent into catatonic seizures (Oooh, a double conudrum), but it had to be said.

So, about the end of the week I will finally get to click YES on the little pop-up asking me if I want to upgrade to 1.64.
My fingers have been itching to move my mouse over the Yes box and click with abandon.
However, I have been patient (and more importantly still able to play on Avlis) so what's a few more days.
We trust that when it's ready the team will let us know.

Override
Isn't there an override file on the disk. On the previous editions that one reduced the version to before the fresh install.

Mystara has been upgraded to 1.64. *sniff sniff* Now my char is _really_ trapped...
Can anyone explain the ways CoPaP cooperates? I thought that if one world (not to mention the fact that it is actually the BIGGEST and MAJOR CoPaP world) cannot be upgraded at the moment, the others should wait for it?
Ehh... well, I am angry with the other worlds DM teams, and actually wanted to thank you, here on Avlis, for informing us about what's going on.

The best site for finding out more on CoPaP is of course http://www.copap.org. Your questions are probably better asked there. What is usually comes down to however, is that the worlds all have as much autonomy as possible within the articles of the confederation, the manifest of CoPaP. This is includes when they update and whether they want to wait for Avlis or not.Isengrim wrote:Mystara has been upgraded to 1.64. *sniff sniff* Now my char is _really_ trapped...![]()

However, since all CoPaP worlds must use the same haks for their update, to ensure compliance, there is never more than a week or so time difference between server updates.
Ironically the fact that Avlis is the largest world is responsible for the later update date: we have six modules to upgrade, others usually only one or two.
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.
