Does anyone have experience of TFT monitors and nwn?

I am thinking of getting myself a lovely new flat screen monitor to save space and give me a flicker free experience on my game playing

but i wondered about the frame rates and stuff on Tft's, cos they dont refresh, does it cause any problems with the game? Do people get blurry game playing experiences?

just wondering!

I just bought a 17" TFT after my old CRT blew its tube.

It is great, seems much clearer and more detailed than the old one.

I had feared there would be problems with the refresh rate, but that does not seem to be the case.

Also, the greater resolution - about 1280 x 1024, I think - is great when using the DM Client.

yeah thats cool, i thought there wouldnt be problems but its best to seek experienced answers.

Im thinking i will wait about a month or so tho, as i have heard that there are a lot of TFT's stockpiled in Korea and other places around the far east. This means the prices are gonna drop by October or November, so i have been told, the drop could be as much as 40%!! More likely to be around 20% tho, and at ?250 a pop that could save me enough to make me smile.

At the moment im going for a graphics card upgrade to a Sparkle GF FX5700 128MB, about ?100 and it may make Doom 3 play on my lamer 1.8Ghz Athlon XP (2500) chip thang, otherwise im gonna have to try and over-clock the muvva, cos it is a shame i have got doom 3 and i cant play more than the first few levels as it sloooooooowwwwwssss down so much if the scary zombies get too near!

Don't know anything about that refresh thing, but I can tell you I have had a TFT since December and I have never had any problems with it (Apart from a green dot which is due to damage on delivery and when I went to take it back to be swapped turned out by x gf threw the receipt away GODDAMIT but its hardly noticeable so...) And it is so much clearer than the old monitor you wouldn't believe.

Just make sure you get the newest grapics driver for your card - also helpfull speaking about refresh rates ...

I play on a TFT all the time. Its definitely worth it - better resolution, better contrast, and most importantly, your eyes don't suffer after a 10 hours session. That last part is worth every money.

get a 16 ms or below. They have 12 ms now. 25 ms *can* lead to ghosting.

A word of advice buy a TFT with a responce time of 16 msec or lower this improves your game play. The slower ones sometimes give a blurry image with some games.

Blurring really isn't an issue nowerdays, it's running screens at their non-native resolution that makes things look crappy, so make sure your PC can run the game at the LCDs native res, else things will look a bit blocky, but to be honest, at the moment CRTs are still the way to go with games, LCDs are best suited to work (writing, coding, general workstation jobs).

Several aspects were already mentioned.

If you choose a TFT screen keep in mind the native resolution of the screen.
Most screens have excellent scaling built-in. On my screen e.g. i can run 1024x768 and i dont see the scaling at all (native resolution of 1600x1200)

12/16 ms response time is the way to go, esp. if you want to watch dvds on it.

Make sure that you can use DVI! If that is not the case i strongly recommend getting a graphics card with DVI connector.

I highly recommend only getting a screen that you saw in action or that you read a good review about.

(as a side note: this review http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=427 lead me to buy the NEC2080UX+ and that screen is EVERYTHING i expected a good screen to work/look like. I know it's not your price range, but i thoug i'd mention it)
