Create/Modify Weapons/Armor
First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone as I am a new player. I've been playing for about a week and so far I love what I see. That being said, I have a couple questions concerning the modification of weapon and armor graphics.
I have noticed, in the small amount of time I have been on Avlis, that the NWN skills Craft Armor and Craft Weapon have been disabled. Either that or you cannot use these at my level. First question...
1. Are these skills in fact disabled meaning the points I've put into them are useless (in which case this doesn't mean I want to remake my character, I don't mind losing 4 meesly skill points), or do the skills in fact have a use using some trade skill system?
If the latter is the case, then I have another question. On most servers in which they use a trade skills system, you are given an item that keeps your trade skills for you, usually called "Trade Skills Box/Journal" etc. If this is the case, I do not have this item. If it is not... I have searched a good deal of Le'Or TNanshi looking for a forge, anvil or other widely use placable used in trade skill item creation, but have not found any save for the forge near the dwarf in the market area. Second question...
2. If you do use such placables to create/modify armor and weapons, where might I find hints or clues to their uses and locations (since I wish for my character to learn about such things in-character)?
If this is the wrong place for this thread, I appologize. If this has already been covered and I missed it, I appologize.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi, and welcome to Avlis!RaireDidimus wrote:First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone as I am a new player.
AFAIK, the skills have no use at all. I am certain this is written somewhere in the rules of the server. Sorry for your loss of skillpoints, but a loss it is.RaireDidimus wrote:1. We have a book of tradeskills, try looking at some merchants in Elysia for exemple. As for forges/anvils etc, hehe, only one solution - keep looking. There is really a lot of those around. You will soon find some, be sure.RaireDidimus wrote:On most servers in which they use a trade skills system, you are given an item that keeps your trade skills for you, usually called "Trade Skills Box/Journal" etc. If this is the case, I do not have this item. As for now, you do not modify anything in the placeables, instead you can craft your own things. As a general rule, every big city around here has one or more places designed for crafters.RaireDidimus wrote:2. If I ever edit a post it most probably cause of the typos. I make a hell lot of them when I write.

BTW, the book of tradeskills is for information purposes only, it just tells you your current skill level. Your actual crafting XP is stored in the main game database. The advantage of this is, you can't lose your crafting skills if you somehow lose the book etc. Avlis has a wonderful crafting system, but it is fairly complex, your best bet is to contact one of the crafting guilds and learn about it within the game, in character.
Good luck!

I went to RockHome and my Avlis character wasn't selectable. So how do I do it? Do I have to find some portal or boat to get there?Enverex wrote:You haven't wasted the points. Yes, you have to take a portal to get there, you can not just log in because they have different server vaults. Probably best to ask in-character where the portal is.RaireDidimus wrote:I went to RockHome and my Avlis character wasn't selectable. So how do I do it? No, but you can create a Wemic here and take a portal to Rockhome. If you did create one in Avlis then played most of your time on another world where that race didn't exist however, that would be looked down on.RaireDidimus wrote:So I can use them on Rockhome... (Don't let this scare you from travelling, I'm just talking about creating a Wemic, running to Rockhome, and not looking back.)

Yea, but I've been encouraged to travel to these other planets and planes. So if my character found one he particularly liked and decided to call it his home, where's the harm in that?
Plus, I went to Rockhome and the Character Customizer Golem is there, and according to him I can be all of the things that I could on Avlis, plus Minotaur and a couple others.
And I created a character on Rockhome and tried to use my crafting skills and it gives me the same message as Avlis... "You cannot use your crafting skills at this time."

That's not necesarily true. The problem is usually Avlisians running off to some other world for short time to obtain something (PrC, a race that is inconsistent to Avlis, or special feat,etc...) and then run right back home - THAT is frowned on.Eliyas wrote:No, but you can create a Wemic here and take a portal to Rockhome. In Rockhome, the Bioware crafting is now tied to the Emote wand. I don't know what advantage it gives, but there must be something.
I don't speak for Ferus, Rockhome's maker, but I would think he would love to have another permanent player, even if it isn't a Rockhome standard race. The server has been doing very well lately. He makes changes to improve things there almost every day. And there are already two Wemics living there on a pretty permanent basis. It might even be a standard race there. I'd say go for it!

Thanks, CPU. I made a Wemic on Rockhome, they are supported, and found out that you can use Bioware drafting through the emote wand, however... As far as I've found out, you can only modify your armor. If your character doesn't have a weapon in his hand, it will bring up the menu with the usual "Craft Weapon - Not possible. You do not have a weapon equipped." message. But, when you actually do equip a weapon, the option to modify your weapon is no longer there. I find this mildly amusing.

Post it at Rockhome's forum too. I'm sure they know more about it than anyone here.
And it helps informing the players that are playing there. It is a good idea to read the forums of a world before portaling there, some have a lot of information about special features of that world.
If you want to play a character in Avlis and Rockhome, ask IC for the portal. It is very easy to find it, and most of the PCs in Rockhome knows where it is.
By the way, asking IC seems to always be a good idea here.
Welcome to Avlis and CoPaP.

Here's another bit of free advice - you can't modify every sort of weapon on Rockhome. I found that they don't like staves there. So there are probably other weapon types that they don't accept for whatever reason. I could modify a dagger (if I wanted - I didn't, but, I looked though the options for the fun of it). Half the fun is just looking at what IS available!RaireDidimus wrote:Thanks, CPU.
