I am thinking of a half-Nymph / Half-Dryad for my first char

Post by SpitwolF » Tue Aug 24, 2004 7:46 am

But, new here, and the diety system is very different to my old RP server.

What Diety would a druid of those races worship? Or, can they just worship nature? or is that more of an Elf Druid thing to do. I used to play an Elf Druid and she worshipped nature, she saw it as the greater power over all. Can a Nymph or Dryad think like that?

Also, do you have any references I can read up on how to RP either of these races? It looks like a challenge to me and hope to enjoy.

Have just recieved my confirmation so see youin game later on tonight 8)

Bye

Nymphs and Dryads are mostly O'ma folk, so having O'ma as deity would make much sense.

Titania might work too, but you'll get into complicated politics fast . :-)

Ok thanx! Do you think Half-Nymph/Half-Dryad druid is a good idea? or is it done all the time? I want to be a bit special hehe, don't wanna look like everyone else.

Also do they have their own model? Or do I need to do special colours on the skin and hair? What colours are they if I do.

I think you should worry less about the race and more about how you will play your character. Although race sets the tone on Avlis - mostly with the war - it is a lot more how your character reacts to situations that will really make him or her stand out.

Haughty? Charming? Cantankerous? Disarming? I know many elves and humans, the two highest played races on Avlis, who are able to make their characters distinct and unique.

Its nice to play a different and exotic race, don't take me wrong. But the uniqueness only lasts so long, then it becomes a minor factor next to the character as a whole.

Hehe, imagine a poor centaur trying to manuever on hooves around the canopies! Now that could lead to some very interesting rp and character development. ;)

Spitwolf, keep in mind that on Avlis, all divine casting classes have to worship a god to recieve spells. You cannot have a paladin who believes in abstract "goodness", or a druid who believes in nature. You have to pick a god representing that. For the paladin case, the only god for paladins is Gorethar, because they are his holy knights.

For druids, you could worship Skern, Dru-El, Dre-Ana, Dagath, O'Ma, Titania, umm... mabye there's one more. Can't remember.

Make sure you enter the god's name correctly into the deity field in character customization. Avlis will know, and if you don't have a proper god, you will find yourself unable to cast spell levels higher than 3.

Half Nymphs and Dryads. There are quite a few half nymphs, and I haven't yet seen a half-dryad. *shrugs* Then again, the only way to tell is from the character description, so I could have met several half-dryads and not realized it.

Skin coloring: I have seen both half dryads and nymphs with skin anywhere from human shades, to pale whiteish. It really can be anything you want, within reason. Nobody is going to mind.

Well.... Unless maybe you make them midnight black and with stark white hair, that is. :) <--- Joke

Welcome!

It's Dru'El and Dre'Ana, no dashes, but the little floating comma bits. :)
And there's not one, but even several more: Verossa, Pelar and recently also Cha'reth.

The most important thing when deciding which deity to follow with your druid is probably alignment. Here's a breakdown:

Deity/alignment

Dru'El, CG
O'Ma, NG
Dre'Ana, NG
Pelar, NG
Skern, TN
Verossa, CE
Titanea, TN
Dagath, TN (but druids may be any)
Cha'reth, CG

Do a search on the boards and check out the details on the website for more details on these gods and their druidic followers.
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

Try a Half-ogre rogue with 8dex. You'd be pretty special then :D

I can't recall ever seeing a half-dryad in game, so I think that would be really neat. Half-nymphs are pretty rare, though, too...so whatever you choose, I think you'll have a unique character. :)

just wanna point out that it's your RP that makes your character unique. Not his genetic make up.

The wow factor of having a little used race lasts only so long.

Yeah, as in "Little Bus" special. Heh.

Runs off to roll a half-ogre rogue with 8 dex

As funny as this sounds... a low dex, armor wareing, half-ogre rogue has to this point been the one of the scariest melee I have ever seen in combat. Str based rogues ARE viable.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

You could do a low-Cha, high-Wis half-nymph druid and be the homely half-sister that all the nymphs laughed out of the forest. So you started to follow Verossa (or Titania) and someday you'll show them!

That'd be different.

To bad you can't do a low-cha half-nymph. Lowest you can roll up is 13 cha! :)

13 is low for a half-nymph. Just like 14 is high for a dwarf or half-ogre.

Right I mean, if all your siblings were supermodels and you're just pretty, and they make fun of your looks it could give you quite a complex. And besides, it's add an extra dimesion if the half-nymph thinks she's ugly but really isn't.
