1. I'm not sure what service pack for Windows XP is required for NWN, but I installed it on my little brothers computer, and only had SP 2, ran at about a fifth of the frames it does now.

2. God can't even stress how important new video card drivers are. I have two examples. When I first got Return to Castle Wolfenstien, I had a Radeon 7500, and at every setting as low as possible it ran at 15 frames tops, this is having a 1.4ghz P4 and 512 ram at the time. I updated the video drivers and I could run it at 800*600 everything else cranked at 60fps. The second is quite recently, its when I got Doom 3 (Which I was very disapointed in, don't hate me) it ran at barely 20fps when I have 1gb of ram, 2.6ghz processor and a geforce 5600. hadn't updated my driver in about 6 months, no I run Doom 3 at 40 fps with 2x AA.

I didn't use anti-virus for 2 years and never reformatted, I have 3mbs a second upload and download speed, and I use it. When I finally isntalled it, I had 1 virus which norton cleaned up before installing. My brother got a new HD 2 months ago, he now has 5 virus that norton can't remove and remain after he reformats. JUST DON'T USE KAZAA! (including lite an k++)
