Jewelcrafting goes live!

Post by Sylvan Phoenix » Fri Aug 20, 2004 2:37 am

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to let you all know the Jewelcrafting has finally gone live on Ferrell. It is running on new crafting code. This code is in 'beta' testing right now. It's 80% done but good enough that I felt you could all start hammering on it and posting your feedback. There's a thread in the development forum just for that. viewtopic.php?p=336540

Also, this code, once it gets finalized, when then spread to the other servers. It will also be made available to all CoPaP worlds. Hopefully we can wrap this up by mid September. At that point you will start to see the other tradeskills moving over one by one to the new code. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Sylvan

I've always been curious as to how a new craft would be initialized... I mean, what? People just start throwing random gems in some crafting equipment with random stuff, and see what happens?

/me has never bothered with the crafting system... isn't it obvious?

Well, I'm guessing that it's going to be random gems and random ingots of ore... :)

Now if only I could survive in the salt mines long enough to get some gems...

Don't forget that you have to cut the gems first. Somehow, I doubt that will be all that random, but won't know for sure until I get in there and try. Bye!

I do believe the new message states that you need a hammer or mace.

Mace is 100% certain to be Simple.

The old message used to say hammer or mace. As far as I know the new system requires a special ore mining hammer, or a special gem mining hammer.

And mace is simple, but this still isn't usable by all classes (wizards for instance). The only melee weapon that is usable by every class/race is the humble dagger... mining daggers anyone? EDIT: I think club as well

Personally, I'd rather they'd gone for the picks available in CEP weapons. There's a light pick - ideal for gems, and a heavy pick for ore - perfect :)

Monks also don't have simple proficiency.

I'm going to have to waste a feat just so I can mine ore and gems

The dagger can be used by anyone and works on 100% of the overloaded crafters

*you get thrown out of the shadows*

*a Voice is heard*

Do you have a reservation for that shadow?*

*sound of book being paged thru*

Hmm I see that shadow and the rest along the mining corridor are booked up by the Ravens and Shadow Dirks. Ravens to the left and Shadow Dirks on the right.

*sound of magic item being activated*

So which are you left or right?

Perhaps you could breifly outline what needs to be done to polish jewels... so we can all know whats a bug or whats just improper use. I would post how I have successfully used the table in the past, but dont want any spoilers up.

From the big gem mining extravaganza a couple people said they were having problems getting the table to work for them.
