Well I read the September issue of PC Gamer and unless they have a hideous non-April Fools day prank planned here's what it said at the end of the issue on what's in next month's issue.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, the roleplaying game that made many of us gamers in the first place. To celebrate, we've scored exclusive first looks at NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2, D&D ONLINE, the D&D RTS, and BALDUR'S GATE 3. Needless to say, this is the only place you'll find previews of these highly anticipated D&D games - plus an in-depth retrospective of D&D on the PC.
Also don't miss our round-up of the next big shooters, and our WARHAMMER: DAWN OF WAR hands-on!
So there ya have it at least for the October issue. True or not? Hell if I know.

Just remember that not once did that say anything about BioWare.

Just because BioWare made a game in the past, doesn't mean they are making the next one in the future.

Well, it's official.

http://nwvault.ign.com/news/data/1091641729000.shtml

But I'm somewhat afraid; Atari/Hasbro is running the show from the start, and Bioware is not the one making the sequel. I don't know anything about Obsidian...

The guy who runs Obsidian, Feargus, is one of the minds behind the Fallout series, and dates back in the RPG community to Bard's Tale.

In other words, he knows his shit. W00t! :P

They own Atari now, I think...

Watch what you say about Transformers... :(

Hasboro bought WotC which bought TSR. If you want to see something sad, take a look at how small a part of Hasboro WotC is and how small a part of WotC D&D is. D&D wasn't even a line item in Hasboro's financials last time I looked...

Obsidian has a lot of former Black Isle employees I think, so I don't think there's too much to worry about.

Well I took this from the press release that Obsidian put out

""BioWare and Atari created an immense community of players attracted by both the immersion of an interactive gaming experience and the ability to create their own pen-and-paper styled modules. Neverwinter Nights changed the very nature of roleplaying games," said Feargus Urquhart, Obsidian Entertainment's CEO. "With Neverwinter Nights 2, we're going to take that incredible experience to the next level by combining a huge new single-player game with deep character development and many new upgrades and enhancements to the already powerful BioWare Aurora Toolset for the modding community."

Neverwinter Nights 2 will be developed by Obsidian Entertainment, founded by Feargus Urquhart who, as the President of Black Isle Studios, was responsible for the publishing of the Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series and the development of the Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment franchises, both powered by BioWare Engine Technology, as well as overseeing the creation and development of the Fallout series. BioWare will provide tools, technology, and game assets from the original Neverwinter Nights as well as lend creative input and oversight to the development process. "

So that explains why the Bioware logo appears there, and also their involvement.

It also explains how they may have a shot ( although I highly doubt it) of getting NWN2 out on shelves in 2006.

If they're using the Aurora toolset as a base and just building on that, it would cut down on the development time, and also mean that the current NWN community of modders will at least have some familiarity with what they're working with.

It could turn out to be a pretty cool product, looking at the experience they have with making great rpgs in the past.

It's good to see the old Black Isle guys working on something. The future for good computer rpgs was looking pretty bleak, then this announcement, and Bethesda's announcement that they are working on Fallout 3.

Oh btw, whoever mentioned D&D online, well, don't get your hoped up. It's being made by Turbine, the same folks who made Asheron's Call 1 & 2. Going by that record, they haven't really shown much expertise in making anything resembling a good role play environment ( although I gotta say, AC was a lot of fun for a hack n slash online game, at least for awhile)...
