Next step, PC stupid, technically challenged!!
OOC- ok I have been accepted into the servers, but I have a little probelm. I am semi-computer stupid, I have no tech skills what so ever. So if someone can walk me through the download process, I went to the link and it posted several different things. What process should I down load them and to what part of PC- desktop, into the game itself etc... It also stated I need a few programs installed as well. I think I have winzip, but have no idea to use it. Again, PC dumb!! Any responses will greatly appreciated. I plan downloading the next online version when you sign into a multi player game, have not signed on in about 3 months or so. That is step #1, as soon as I get home.

There is a full installer that will do it all for you.
Assuming your NWN install is in the default folder, and it sounds like it will be, just download and run the installer and you will be all set.
actually, you may also need to download the copap patch hak, i am not sure if that got into the installer or not.
The links to both those things are in the downlaods section of this site, linked from the left of the front page.

Well I started to download the Hakpak, version 101. On my dial-up, it says it will take 11 hours, it is 120mbs. Looks like I will be running it all night. My other question in, for the other, it says I need a another program from microsoft(I think). IS that in the other download or should I download that first before I do the next mandatory one for Avlis?

You need the .NET Framework to use the full installer.
If you don't already have it then it's a seperate 20MB download.

Yes, I just went back and looked, I am now currently downloading CEP. Then I have to download .NET framework, so I can download and install the Avlis HackPack. It get the feeling I will be spending my weekend downloading instead of creating and playing my character. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, that's the worst things about dialup - anything more than a few K takes ages to download.
One day you'll eventually upgrade to the wonderful world of broadband, and wonder how you ever lived with all those massively long downloads.

Ok well, here is a little update. Effort number 1- got to 57% done and it disconnected. This happened around midnight last night. So I reconnect and start effort number 2- I woke up this morning at 8 am, with the excitement of christmas, to only be disappointed with coal for it disconnected again at 68%. So now effort number 3 is underway as I tread off to the hell hole we all know as work. Lets just hope it works this time. Keeping my fingers cross!!! By the way my ISP is MSN.

Do you have some kind of download manager?
You might want to get one if you don't - I think that if it disconnects they can automatically keep trying to reconnect.

Super easy to use, small free program... not spyware...
It creates a little icon, you just 'drag' stuff onto the icon, and it starts downloading it. If it disconnects, you can pick up where it left off... usually it can reconnect and do this on its own, or you can look on the list of things you 'dragged' onto it and just click to resume the download.
You can also specify times tio download (like middle of the night) so it wont interrupt your regular internet usage. Before broadband, this program was a life saver.
((ever try to download a 3 CD sized Linux install on Dial Up???))
Hope that helps a little.

Yeah, especially when on dialup you need a download manager with a resume function.
Even better is a buddy or a work address or anybody really that has a decent download speed and a CD burner or some other mass storage device and lives near enough to try to. The beer and the drive is still much more efficient than waiting the lots of hours needed for the download to finish.
If you still feel daunted by the huge size of the full installer you can do it in small chunks too. Just download all the haks seperately then, unrar them and put them in your NWN\hak folder. You can easily tell which haks you're still missing by just trying to connect. If you lack some files NWN will prompt you for them.

Ok well it seems the gods of this world and the gods of technology are against me. I tried 7 times to download the CEP and every time between 50-60% it DCs me. My Pc is just to slow and with the dial up it does not stand a chance to download that kinda size. So I have given up to I get a broadband. I hope you all do not mind me hanging around till then, so I keep up on with what is going on here. I hope to see you all soon, till then happy hunting and may the winds of fate be kinder to you than they have been to me.

I was just thinking the same thing. I downloaded mine at work and burned a cd with the automatic installer. If you PM me an address to send it to, I will dig around my desk to find it and send you a copy.Emprod wrote:I'm sure someone could send you a burned CD with the relative files. I would offer but my burner's farked right now.

I only tried the CEP, figured I needed that to download the next one? AFter I install the CEP I will try the next one. Again, many thanks for the kindness!!
