A bard needs help...

Post by dreden_darmark » Thu Jul 08, 2004 8:43 pm

When I sing a song I have the lyrics in notepad and I copy them then paste them into the dialog. However if I do this for an extended period of time NWN's crashes and says I'm out of memory. This is irksome when i'm in the middle of a performance. Anyone have any ideas how I could get around this? The text macros don't hold enough text for me, as such I can maybe fit one song into them, if I use them all. I'd hate to have to type all my lyrics every time I sing.

Only suggestion I can offer is either downgrade to Windows 98 or increase your RAM, because that sounds like what's happening. Windows XP eats up a huge amount of RAM compared to earlier versions - what sounds like what's happening is that your computer doesn't have enough RAM to handle both NWN and Windows at the same time.

That is assuming of course you are Windows XP. If not, then having additional RAM installed from a local computer store will help.

XP is not so bad. But as Midknght said it needs RAM to work. 512 is minimum to have an honest "non crashing machine due to lack of memory"....Sad but true, whatever microsoft can say.

Try running NWN in windowed mode. That may help. You can find info on how to do that at the bottom of this thread, along with a lot of other neat stuff: viewtopic.php?t=19267

i would suggest playing in windowed mode. Do a search for how to set it on the boards, if you dont know already. ( I'd tell you, but i dont remember off the top of my head). That shouldnt use up all your memory switching between the two. Alternatively, you can just put the song in your journal txt file, and type it up from there in game, without the minimizing.

I'm going with using windowed mode, and I haven't had problems yet.

Thanks for the help
