Good Video Card Deal
Every now and then, folks ask what the best video card is for NWN. We know that the best brand is nVidia. However, as far as a specific card goes, I've been suggesting the GeForceFX 5700 Ultra. This card is very, very good in bang for the buck performance.
That said, both nVidia and ATI are releasing their next gen cards. Yes, they will be superior to current cards in most every way. However, I have been predicting that current cards would see a price drop and clearouts at retailers. This is just starting to happen now.
The 5700 Ultra is a $229.00 dollar card at retailers. It's been that price for a while. At PriceWatch.com, the cheapest price going for an Ultra is $172.00. I just came back from Best Buy. They have these puppies on closeout for $119.00. This is a GREAT price so I bought one. If you are in need of a card, I strongly suggest that you head over to your local Best Buy and have a look. They carry several kinds of 5700 Ultra's. This manufacturer is called eVGA. They are marked down by $100.00.
eVGA 5700 Ultra reviews:
PC Magazine - Rated 4/5
Firing Squad - Rated 87%
Hot Hardware - Rated 10/10

I have been waiting to get a video card to replace my Gforce2 MX .
Perhaps now is the time. Thanks Manuel. I hope this is still on at best buy or I will have to wait until later.

Paid $500 for my fx 5950 4 months agoManuel the White wrote:Someone asked me about the nVidia 5900 FX.
This is also a great bang for the buck card. It is a better performer than the 5700 Ultra in most cases. It does cost a bit more but looks very good. Expect to pay around $185.00 online and over $215.00 at retailers.

The 5950 is better than both but that's some serious cash to lay down for a vid card. I could damn near build a PC for that much. That's the problem with cutting edge gear: it cuts into your wallet...NecroZombie wrote:Paid $500 for my fx 5950 4 months agoManuel the White wrote:Someone asked me about the nVidia 5900 FX.

I got the ATI Radeon 9600 XT in my new computer. It performs well in everything that I've played with including NWN.
In addition, any Halflife fans will be pleased to know that ATI's XT cards ship with a Halflife 2 cd-key which will allow you to download the game from Valve or pay a small shipping and handling fee to get CDs shipped to you (when they finally stop stalling and release the game

I had exactly the same question. Me and one friend have the GeForce Ti 4200, but my friend recently bought a 5600FX and the games, like BF 1942, Painkiller or AVP2, run smooth as silk with max details.Morgoth wrote:ok looking to spend some money but is it worth it can someone tell me the benifits that differ from the GeForce 4 TI 4200 and the eVGA 5700 or is it so slight that i should spend my money elsewhere?
But, if you are going to spend your gaming time in NWN then I recommend you to stay with the same videocard. NWN depends more on processor and memory.
