Advice to a distressed newbie

Post by Ben DeVeny » Mon Jun 21, 2004 12:14 pm

Hello Avlis
I started my career on PWs this last weekend on world similar to this (by the info I gather on the websites and so on). The short version is, I got killed a lot, stat drained, looted, etc, while doing the newbie quest. Not once but all weekend. It sucked not a little. :!:
I gave up after two days of getting the shit kicked out of me, and decided to move here.

Before I create, I am hoping some of you veterans from the trenches will give me a bit of advice on what classes, skills, whatever, are most likely to see me from lvl 1 to lvl 6 or so (where I at least have the choice of running from a fight).

I hope a bit of advice will help me avoid the fiasko of the last two days repeating itself. Things like "dont go out alone" are a given. (we got eaten anyway). I am talking about choices in the generation process.

thank you.
see you soon.

The best advice I can give you, at least relating to creating a character here on Avlis, is to not worry about its durability but more its enjoyability. I would say take a bit of time to read the excellent guide for all Avlis players here and to browse the forums to get a flavour for the world and the feel for some of its broader plotlines/politics.

Some classes are frontloaded while others take some time to really see their full potential, but in the end it's the fun factor that makes playing here on Avlis so enjoyable. Since Avlis is a roleplaying server, take the time to think up a character concept and backstory that is important to you and go with that. In time, you'll find any character you create will have something that it excels at which will in turn give you something unique you can offer to a party dynamic and RP environment.

So get busy imagining/creating, login and party up. Welcome to Avlis, and I look forward to seeing you in game.

Cheers,

Were you getting your ass handed to you by other players? Or by encounters with monsters?

Don't adventure alone! oh .... you already know that one.

Ok .... don't go to places where you will be stomped on. To find out where and where not to go, best if you ask in-game. There's loads of people around that will be happy to help you.

If you see Aradan online, stop by and say hello - he'll be happy to help and advise you. Might even take you along with him if you're friendly enough.

PS Don't expect to get from lvl 1 to lvl 6 quickly. You don't need to be level 6 to survive in most places.

PPS welcome to Avlis - have fun !! :D

I'm mostly in Mikona and Elysia. If you see me online feel free to msg me and we can do some adventuring together. I have been on avlis for a few weeks and can give you some advice from a new player's perspective.
There are also many new players that have been around for a while that don't mind newbies tagging along...

Thank you. I will look for you both online.
and Arandil, to answer your question, I was doing a newbie quest, a mail run between two towns. It involves crossing about 10 maps. Even when traveling with the biggest toughest hombres, the little guy takes one arrow and dies. Then getting looted on top of it all just sort of cut it for me. Dont mean to whine, but honestly, two days of hard work with nothing but dead PCs to show for it was enough. Time to move on.

And no Aradan, I dont expect to level quickly. I DO however demand to live more than a couple of hours. :o
There has to be something to do besides stare at a campfire and wait for a DM to come along. The last place (Alfa Cormyr) was just too damned deadly for the little guys.

I have a fine concept in mind. I have done some research on the website and I think it should work out. Time will tell.

I appreciate the input!
see you there.

:) Just don't do dangerous stuff.

Look for me, if you'd like a hand. Hortis, usually in Ferrell.
