Calling all coders and builders

Post by Orleron » Sat Jun 12, 2004 5:46 am

Once again, the Avlis Team is ready for another wave of recruiting. This time, we need coders foremost, and builders secondarily. Though these posts are going to be a LOT of fun because you'll be getting to work behind the scenes as well as managing subcontractors under you, it's also a very focussed group of positions. When we hire a subcontractor, they may or may not do what we need them to do (to our dismay sometimes). They get easily sidetracked, and their original assignment gets lost and forgotten by them. For a full fledged team member, we need someone who can start a small project and finish it from A to Z without too much deviation. It takes concentration and perserverance, but it is also the SINGLEMOST rewarding experience! Imagine seeing your own prestige class quest!

To further whet your appatites, here's some of the projects we have need of help with:

* Making prestige class quests, for both holy warriors and stock Bioware classes

* Creating noble quests for Mikona and Le'Or T'Nanshi

* Fleshing out the empty towns and villages in T'Nanshi

* Creating temple quests for all servers

* Creating Shadow Dirk quests for Elysia

* Iimplementing our "spell hook" code

* Creating lowbie quests for Deglos

* And much much more....

So if you are inerested in applying, have any team member retrieve a copy of a team application for you. (They are located in the public downloads directory of the old ftp server at avlis.blackdagger.net.)

Of course, a solid knowledge of NWScript is required, and real programming experience is a big plus. Dedication is the big thing on top of that.

Send that team app back to staff@avlis.org, and wait for the reply!

Good luck all!

Im not a coder or a builder, but I am a writer and I thoroughly enjoyed the plodding work of writing object descriptions for a Daggerford PW a while back. Want descriptions to go with doors, signs, objects etc ? .. Im your man. I have done some dialog work, but not a great deal. Will work within existing team to supply descriptions and text. So if I can help, someone could PM me with an application form, I'll be happy to apply.

I will look into it to see if there is a need for that. Thanks much.

Ditto for writing. I am a good dialogue writer for anything except comedic script (unless the wit is extremely dry). I can be an editor as well, and eliminate whatever pesky mispellings and/or grammar problems you may be having. I am not sure if this is at all an issue though, as I haven't officially entered the world. I am just looking for something to do and thought I'd offer my assistance.

I dont have much experience in NWN script, I do have a lot of scripting experience with Java and PHP.

But I would like to join the team as a DM foremost, as that is something I truly enjoy (also in RL). I have DMed D&D, HARP, Vampire Dark Ages, Rolemaster, MERP, L5R amongs others, and would like to add NWN to the list :). As I am from Netherlands (Europe) I think I could fill a timegap between overseas GMs on Elysia.

But maybe I can (also) join the team as a coder, I think I could handle the job because I am a third year IT student, who works in projects a lot (from A to Z too, following all kind of methods and stuff). I am able to plan my time, and push team members around who are in need of that.

I would Orleron, but I've only just joined not but 2 weeks ago and would like a little longer to play a bit before you lock me in a cage in front of a computer scripting ;)

Maybe in a month or so...

Bought a MCSE on eBay huh?

Just kidding...
If your serious about working with Linux or any Unix varient, you need to setup a box and dedicate it to that... Its not possible to learn something if you only touch it every month or so...

does two set up count

Post by Nighteagle » Tue Jun 15, 2004 9:26 pm

I am a computer tech at the college here. I have one system of the four at my desk that is unix and one of my two at home is unix. Have both set up with slide drawer for the hard drive so i can switch the two back and forth and work on either. So trying to figure where that is every month or two.

I'd like to join if possable. I probably need a bit more experience with the world before I can actually get down to making things, but I am a fairly competent builder, and my scripting is improving alot. How would I go about getting an application?

We have those at the college I'm "studying" at... They have been nicknamed "Hard Drive Killers" because almost every second drive that goes into these dies... :)

I am a so-so scripter. I get by for what I need. However I've been building ever since NWN came out, and I'd be happy to lend a hand.
