i had been talking to a pair in the market and saw the lost XXX item, wasnt really sure if that was actually the game notifying me i had been pickpocketed or not, so i played along that i had not noticed, oh well, i know now, so Thieves "Beware"

the tool sounds great, i thought it was odd that a thief could pickpocket a Tower Shield
The tool isn't suppsoed to allow that. More than likely they were using normal PP.

So it's up to the rogues to NOT USE the normal PP skill, and only use the tool?

The tool is still in testing. When it's ready, the team will add it to the game and disable the PP skill. You will only be able to pick pockets using the tool.

So, would you still need to put ranks into PP? Would having a lot of ranks in PP improve your chances of success when using the tool?

Yes, the tool will make a PP check against the amount of skill points you have in PP to determine success

It hasn't been disabled as far as I know. It was planed on, but it became to a point, an unneeded item because the problems with pickpocketing were delt with by the agreement of the players.

Yeah... most of the pickpockets who got anywhere with thier characters have reached that sort of agreement. You shouldn't have trouble spotting the newbie ones who think they can get away with it...

agreements?

Post by Galadorn » Tue Jun 17, 2003 4:58 am

Are these agreements to be read anywhere?

If someone creates a new Rogue, and can't get to the underground, or wants to thieve without anyone else knowing (ain't that how it's usually done??), how will said Rogue know what to do?

What is the status on the PP tool?

Finally, Orleron mentioned on page one of this thread that if the tool is a reality, after determining if the PP was successful, it will randomly choose one "pickpockettable" item from the target's inventory, and then he mentioned it will scroll through the inventory and select the FIRST item on the list of "pickpockettable" items... can't someone rearrange their inventory to allow all skeleton knuckles to be the "first items" in their inventory, and the diamonds to be at the bottom? :) (i know this is simply solved by the randomization of the pick), but thought it was worth clarrifying. :)

My biggest gripe is the pickpocket full sets of platemail, tower shields, ETC.

i was hoping for the tool to cover that part, that you couldnt pickpocket anything larger than 2x1.

is the tool dead now?

Silk was making this tool. As you might know he is excused from active duty for a while. Maybe it would be useful to restart this discussion when he comes back, or just work it our among yourselves with some gentlemen's rules.

If you feel you have been grieved by wanton pickpocketing: anonymous@blackdagger.com is the way to go.
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

Its not a reatreat, its taking the offensive in the opposite direction.

Pandas&Biscuits, you should apply to the rogue forum and read up real quick, there are guidelines, things that are that big shall be returned ooc, if you don't want the player to find out ooc you hide up on them and drop it on the ground so they can retrieve it. It's faulty, but It works, I also suggest common sense, items larger than two frames can be excused if it's really low cost in my opinion, I wouldn't return leather boots to a high level char

This might become a problem with the influx of new players? There's not a way for alot of players to know about pp rules as long as they are in private discussion forums.

So any character over level 5 is fair game right? And when I say fair game I mean can you clean em dry or is there a limit on items you can take?

Also, if you consistently 'clean em dry' You are sure to become very very unpopular very quickly. If you aren't a member of the rogues forums you should join and read up there. I'm sure you'll find some answers to your pick pocketing questions, as well as reading all of this post..

If you have a rogue character, get access to the Rogue forums. There's a very nice sticky concerning pickpocketing.

Um... is there something you have to do IG to get membership? I didn't think so, but I signed up about 2 weeks ago and membership is still pending for me. If it's just a delay, this might be why people are asking here.

Jordicus is the moderator of that forum, and since he's become the head of the Avlis team, I wouldn't be surprised there's a delay. He's got a lot of things on his platter. :D
