Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on the scripts that they post. Actually right now I'm working on monster spawning.... it's kinda hard to get it to work right.

If you're talking about the building exteriors, you have to use 3D Studio Max (or something like that).

Interiors you can make just like the town with a different toolset.

BTW, I'm testing what I have so far as a server. You can logon to see the docks, the dock sewers and an Inn (see if you can find it on the east side).

The server is called "Black Dagger: Mikona Docks" and is listed under the "PW Action" category.

You can look at the docks part of the city, and the sewers (beware of the ratman spawn) but there's not much else to do at the moment.

Editing buildings and tilesets is hard because you need software to convert the binary NWN files into ascii and then work on the ascii. Then you need to convert that back into binary, i.e. compile it. It requires some third party software. You can't even view the tiles pictorially without unpacking them somehow.

Silk, I didn't see the server on the list. Is it still up? We gotta come up with a way that I can update the server from here. Can you set me up some kind of ftp account?

ftp, hmm... I can do that but you wouldn't be able to shutdown, update, and restart the server.

if you u2u me your module, i can merge them and restart the server (u2u w/attachment).

Or I can send you my module, you can merge them and send it back.

your choice.

BTW, I set up a private Development board for The Avlis Project. Can you see it? You can post updates there.

The only ones with access are you, me, Vanovial, and ceardan.

Help, I'm stuck!

Ok, just wondering you guys are going to restrict your server to server-based characters or any character we so choose to play?

Good question. I was just about to post an update about that.

Right now, the server is up and running. But we are still in the stage of building the basic areas. That should go on for probably another couple weeks. By this, I mean we will be making the basic areas of the starting city, but not any running quests. So, you'll have area to walk around in, but you won't have much to do in it except kill whatever spawns we put.

During this time, the server will be completely open. You can bring in any character. You don't need a password. You can kill whatever/whoever you want, etc. This is being done as we speak, actually, cuz I went in this morning and saw all my NPC's dead. And I worked so hard to script those buggers! hehe... But, that just tells me I've gotta put a respawn on them.

So, anyways, yeah, do whatever you want for now, and eventually when we get enough areas we will close the server and make it private. As of this writing there are six areas up and running in the world, with a seventh on the way in a day or so.

I write this assuming my opinion counts....

Any pw I seriously participate in and want to continue in, I would prefer to start out fresh, and I would prefer all the other pc's start out fresh too...

Also have you thought more about whether you are going to go with an application process, or just open it to invited players only?

I think invited players only would make for a very small playerbase. Applications are a good idea and with good advertising/word of mouth, it could get popular very easily.

I think starting fresh is definitely the way to go. Once they link with other like-minded servers, then I'm sure it will be okay to begin on any of these servers as well as leveling on any of them.

On to leveling, the single player makes it way to easy to gain levels. People on the offician NWN boards are complaining about there not being more levels after 20, but if I recall correctly then 20th level means you are damn near godlike. Obviously such power should not be easily attainable.

hehe, I was walking through the temple area and I heard a large ruccus.

I walked in the direction of the sound and I saw the Temple Guards beating the crap out of the District Temple Guards.

It might have been my imagination but I looked at my keyboard then looked back up and it appeared like the temple guards turned into a group of badgers.

Were you high when you were scripting, Orleron?... or was I high while playing?:P

Correct. When the server goes up for real, it will be staring fresh. We will have server vault characters only and everyone will be 1st level.

To play, you'll need to fill out an application, but anyone can fill out one.

About that scripting thing.... I have no clue why the badgers spawn. It's odd. Every once in a while a friggin' badger pops up out of nowhere and I can't figure out why. I didn't tell it to do that.

The temple district guards were beating on the temple guards probably one of the temple guards casted a spell to kill a monster, and the spell accidentally hit a district guard making him hostile to the temple guard.

The "temple guards" are fighter/clerics while the "temple district guards" are just 5th level fighters. "Temple district guard captains" are like 8th level.

One thing I noticed is that nobody has yet managed to beat down that high cleric of Mikon inside the temple sanctuary... mmmuahahaha... good. I woulda been pissed if someone managed to get him cuz he's like 16th level and he's being helped by three 8th level clerics.

Yes they do. Right now you can kill them easily cuz all you gotta do is respawn over and over.... hehe... But once the server goes up for action, killing them will be a daunting task... especially the way death will work with us.

You summoned the badger or did it appear out of thin air when you were fighting an NPC?

Badgers are a valid thing to summon with the spell monster summoning I, but if they appear during a fight with an NPC it means there's been some problem with calling a variable.... I think.

There was a time when on Avlis, the second you entered THE temple (I say THE becuase I don't remember the name. It was the one you and I were in when I was getting my ass handed to me) a badger was there and just started attacking me. Of course my char being a billy bad ass just fought back, bingo, it's like I flagged gray. Not sure why the badger was there, but when I came off the load screen, there I was in a fight with a badger. It hasn't happened in a while though...
