Oh Ya..talk about air support. The Invisible/Bluffed mage flies over the battle dropping icestorm, fire ball and just about anything else to make life ruff for the ground pounders. Ya I think that would balance things nicely.

of course, one successful dispel on that flying mage and...

*sound of a damaged WWII rotor fighter plane spinning out of control*

*spell components flying out of pouches as the mage races 9.8 m/s (sq) of acceleration to cast a feather fall*

*Splat*

Watch someone claim any mage worth his salt would carry a parachute

Well that is part of the point there is no balance. And who you going to get to cast that or several dispels to take the mage down....Another magic user I wadger. Or someone with some really cool stuff....made by a magic user somewere.... But face it things will never be balanced...the best thing going is a good group, get four or five players together with a few different skill sets and you have something. My not so high level sorcerer has taken spells just for bluffing other party members..... And as in this game or PnP or anyother game a very high level magic user who is ready for you is something to be feared. When your group gets jumped by bandits its the mages or in some cases the archers that do the most damage, and they are the ones you want to get to first.

"Dam!!! Hey you magic user get that mage before he casts another fire ball." I think now days we call this counter battery fire. Mage's do have some big guns, but they are so much more effective when they are in a support roll. I know there are some high level mages out there that can do well solo, but even they will admit a good team is so much more effective.

Delayed action: want to disrupt that mage's spell? Just wait until they start muttering, and hit them when they're flat footed!

Also, there are many item restricitions in PnP. For example, you couldn't MAKE a rod of time stop, as time stop is a 9th level spell.

Flame weapon is a druid-only spell.

Quit complaining. Mages are far more powerful in NWN than in PnP because they have many more choices than other characters. Mages may be powerful in PnP, but when people use all-out movement to enter/leave your spell range in 1 round, delay their actions so they get to attack you while you are flat-footed casting a spell, and you have to use your expensive/rare spell components, they are not nearly so potent. So quit saying how mages are oh-so-much more powerful; they ain't.
Gilkin> ouch. how often do you roll a 20?

Good to hear the bashing has stoped and some sense has come to this thread

Like my original post and the very good posts after it from Alex Noble and TD elude to is that character comparisons don't matter, it's all about team work. If you party up with a mixture of mages, fighters, rogues it's the strategy that counts. It's longer PvP or CVC it's TEAM Vs TEAM. The team with the best strategy wins.
I have a mage character that has around 3/4 attack spells all his other spells are buffs for the fighters! Why, cause it's all about team work.
