Next Trade Fair?
Friends,
I feel it has been a long time since the last Trade Fair! How about we have one again soon? (( Saturday 10th Jan, starting say 1000hrs GMT, in Coventry Fair, Ferrell? ))
Hope to see you all there soon.
Regards,
Sand

ooc: This whole post is ooc.
i'm not really sure if i should post this here or on R&R so i will tone it righ back and post here.
This is a major generalisation, so if it doesn't apply to you then just ignore it.
Do people in America not realise that the rest of the damn world exists? You are behind GMT, that means most of the world is running ahead of you time wise.
Why does everyone alwasy say, oh sunday would be real good, a midday sunday (gmt) time would make it 1am on monday morning for me, a sunday afternoon meeting for all of you is right about when i start work. There is no way in hell i can make that, some of us have to work. If these sorts of things were held on saturdays for you americans then worst case its sunday for the rest of us and we can choose to lose some sleep to come. By making it first thing monday morning you don't give us that option.
I have a very wealthy character (didn't realise how wealthy untill the gold thrad), and you are losing his business completly because you refuse to acknowledge the rest of the world, and repetedly make these fairs early on monday morning for me.
oh well, your loss i guess, i will find someone more flexable to buy off.

Gosh golly, a trade fair? Will someone be selling them wheelystars? 'Cause I sure could use some a'them, t'chuck at bad folks.
Is this gonna be in Ferrell again? I ain't been home in a month of Sundays. Maybe I'll stop by the village and see how Uncle Raspberry is doing!
Gee willakurs, this sounds awful swell!

Umm... Nighthawk's in Britain AFAIK, and I'm in Japan. And we were the ones who scheduled all but one of the trade fairs.
Not everyone will be able to attend all the fairs. I agree that maybe this one should be on a Saturday, even though that means I won't be able to attend. But also remember that we try to schedule the fairs so that the maximum number of merchants and customers can come. I'm afraid often it's the majority that rules, because more customers=more profits, which makes Hurine happy.

OOC All of the other trade fairs have started at god-awful times for the US people. They have been tailored to the rest of the world. Luckily the events went on for a long time, well into the day here.
2ndly, everyone is saying Sunday because there are a buttload of events going on Saturday: I have two overlapping events to attend already, Between the two of them, thats 20+ people that won't be attending a fair on Saturday for a duration of about 3 hours.
If we do Saturday, can we do something completely different, perhaps very late evening US time, that would be midday sunday Australia/Japan. While the Europeans may be sleeping when the event starts, that would be no different than the US/Canadians being in bed when the others have started. I'm trying to suggest a time that is a compromise to all, and would accommodate people that wanted to attend the previous events but couldn't due to timing. thoughts suggestions? OOC

Well...well a trade fair. I am a bit short on cash, but ya never know I may find some thing cheep. And they are fun to watch.
((never going to please every one no matter what time it starts. I think many of us yanks lose site of the fact that Avlis has players all over the world. Many of the folks I see regularly are night owls from the UK. But the 1000 gmt would be a bit tuff on us USA players, I do not think I can crawl out of bed at 5am even for a trade fair. But just set a time and if its at a bit of an off time we just may keep the player count down so we do not crash Ferrell more than once or twice.))

I was at one of the fairs, as a DM, for like 8 hours. I'd do it again, but only because Avlis is like crack rock to me.Morbid Ridicule wrote:Have all events last for at least 24 hours, to account for every timezone.
Of course, it'll be rough on you DM's, but c'mon... you guys hardly do anything anyway.![]()

First, some advice: There are plenty of decaf brands out there that taste just as good.Psyco wrote:Do people in America not realise that the rest of the damn world exists? You are behind GMT, that means most of the world is running ahead of you time wise.

Second, Avlis is not catering to Americans at all - in fact, as has been noted, a lot of events happen at times that are ungodly for Americans, just as they are inconvenient for you. There is no one magic time that works for everyone - if it's the evening in California, it's the middle of the morning in Europe. If it's evening in New Zealand, it's the middle of the morning for California.
Third, I think most players and staff on Avlis are pretty aware that people from all over the world are playing here, and we do everything we can to work around these schedules. I'm personally trying to set up meetings in the next few days with people that are in 3 different time zones, none of them incidentally my own. We all do what we can to accomodate, but sometimes you just have to pick a time that works for the largest number of people.
Fourth, Saturday's pretty booked for a lot of people, including much of the Team. If we can have more players on Sunday, and more Team members are available on Sunday, then I think it makes sense to do it on Sunday.
Even if it's held at oh-my-god-it's-early time in California and what-the-hell-are-they-thinking time in New Zealand.

Heh, it's actually a movie quote. I, for one, don't believe in drinking decaf, just as I don't believe in drinking near-beer. I mean, if you're going to do something, just fucking do it.
But I thought the quote fit, so...
