Hope all is having fun in avlis! Well i can tell ya that i am and now i look back on the server i was on its BIG GRANDAD STYLE PANTS compared to this. So the Avlis team, Me would like to say this... You guys are very gifted and talented people to all who work on it and also the players who RP in it too.

Well thats my kiss ass done with back to matters in hand....

Those who know me i have me little Halfling Barbarian running around alot and hes stuck.... His training is coming alone well and mustring new stock to start big time trading to his customers that have not heard from him for a long time.... But this is my question

My next feat?

I know which one i want to take but i think its not going to work on my little Kanga.

Weopon Finesse....

My str is 15 and my Dex is 19

So i thought to get my attack rating up so i can use power attack more easy if i took Fineese....

My main Weopon is a Short sword but because my size its class i think as a Meduim Weopon and Finesse is for Light weopons.... But on the list of weopons in the manul its listed in there under the feat...

So have i just answered my question within the question?

Any advice would be welcome

others are in Heal and taunt

Before you go jumping on weapon fineese. As yourself a long term question.

You get occasional points to put in abilitys as you lvl. And gear perhaps. Are you going to focus on bringing dex up or str up?

If over the long term you are going to focus on str then you might as well not waste a feat on weapon finesse. If dex is your major attribute then weapon finesse is a great idea.

Yep hes going to be a Dex barb as my dex is higher than strength

I'd take the finesse, and also decide on a 2nd weapon to use that doesn't fall into the 'finessable' category. So when you're raged, and your STR is higher than your dex, you can switch to it.

Maybe a 2hander for those brawny moments? Battleaxe is 2hand on a halfling.

Any weopon a Barb wields while in rage gets a additional 2d8 points of damage on a critical hit

by the way kanga uses a shield and shortsword not going to have two weopons in each hand or a two handed weopon

a Barbarian is conceptually a STR based class. The idea is to do as much damage as possible in the shortest amount of time and completely waste the opponents before your lack of AC catchs up to you. BUT, if you are going to do a DEX placed character, then weapon finesse really is a must as you need the attack bonuses.

and sword swords are finesseable on a small character. I just checked by rolling up a halfing. However, if you want to do dual wield, then your offhand has to be smaller than a short sword.

This is great for your dex barbarian concept. There are plenty of dex based feats too that will make you a real force. You just need to be sure about your long term path now. If you are going dex, that is fine, but you need to make up your mind now. If you are going str that is fine too, but you need to make up your mind now. Both have very good feats, epic feats, and inherant advantages.

With dex based you eventualy have some very high AC, access to epic dodge, which makes you very hard to hit. You can also two hand a finesse weapon (rapier) as a halfling. That is the only way to get a high crit range on a two hander! Dex also makes you adept in a number of skills without spending points. Tumble is dex based, so eventualy you will be so good at it that you will never give an attack of opportunity for moving in combat. Once your dex reaches 26 you will no longer even use armor. That makes for a realy good looking barbarian. You could run around in whatever clothes you feel look best instead of some lame everyone using the same +1full plate option.

Str based has equaly good features. More offensive though. You would do more damage, each 2 str = 1 more damage. You would be heavily dependant on armor. No tumble in med/heavy armor, I can tell you that. So you will still be subject to AOO. But.. You will have access to the epic rage feat. Disapline I believe is str based, so you would be adept vs disarm and knockdown.

Personaly, I think every barbarian is a Str barbarian. It would be great to see a dex based barbarian character breaking the mold.

Yes items won't help when picking feats. It has to be your natural stat, not what you have with items.

Yep, you'll need 10 stat bosts to get that feat. However in epic level rules, you can spend a feat to increase a stat 1 point. But those are epic level feats, so at best you're looking at like 30th lvl before you could get that thundering rage feat.

A good tip for ya: create a mod with the toolset that allows you to experiment with your levelling. (Or there are probably some servers that you can do this on.)

I made my self a a little test mod. Added a few simple encounters there. Put the XP slider to max, so I get about 1000 xp per encounter, or you could script a trigger to give you 1000s of XP as you walk over it - but that is more tricky if you do not know the toolset.

Anyway, the result is: a) you just gained a little experience with the toolset, b) you can load up your character, and make him/her increase a few levels to try out feats and how they work etc. It can be quite good fun. However, personally I wouldn't recommend taking this too far - it takes all the fun out of playing the game proper!

A halfling dex-barbarian is a more unusual (I mean this in a good way ) character concept, so it's doubtful too many people have created one of these. There are a couple of interesting dex based feats you could look at shooting for, though, such as Whirlwind attack (you need Int and Dex at 13 for this feat) and Improved whirlwind attack, the two-weapon feats (if that's your thing), or you could even look at specializing in something like taunt (this has nothing to do with dex, obviously), which is an underrated skill, in my opinion.

I guess my advice would be this: the Barbarian rage feats are very nice feats, but do have certain requirements. If you don't feel those requirements match your character concept very well, don't feel beholden to those feats. There are lots of fun ways to build characters in this game.

One of my favorite builds was a character I played through the Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher modules. He was a halfling bard/fighter with high dex, who dual wielded kukris, used taunt a lot, and used called shot a lot. He didn't do much damage, but between weapon finesse and taunt, he rarely missed and could really mess up his opponents with called shot. Additionally, he was rarely hit. Anyway, good luck and have fun!!

The WotC FAQ for the Epic Handbook clearly states you can use post-adjustment stats as the basis for choosing feats at epic levels, it just goes inactive(thereby wasting a feat slot) if you deequip the item that gets you up that high...

A pity too, would've made things like The Gentleman that much more frightening.

Actually, this is not true. Weapon Finesse works just fine with small characters and short swords. See Verg's post above, he actually rolled up a character and tried it.

If, when selecting feats, you hit the ? button for Weapon Finesse, it will tell you all the weapons to which it applies.

As far as NWN works, race doesn't apply.

That is quite rediculous, really; the entire point of stat requirements is that it is an innate ability, not something you have to have to be wearing your gauntlets of pwnage to use. I think that it is not a flub but a good thing, meaning that you actually have to concentrate on that stat to get that uber epic feats. It also prevents you from getting too many uber feats.

Seem dex is the best way now.... looking i cant use Knockdown as me size and also my dex is way higher

V'heress Kanga is strong but does'nt mean he has to be Str strong

Little Zach and Jimmy are one of the Strongest characters i know and could beat the crap out of most Human size opponets! lol


So dex it is then... i got new armour as i got it for a more RP so i have to now go for dex! But i am small so speed and quickness would be better
