New to the world of Avlis

Post by Blotto » Sun Nov 30, 2003 12:56 pm

Hello am new to the world of Avlis and I was wondering is there any specific severs that make it easier for new characters to get by or are they all more or less the same???

Cheers

I'd suggest starting off in Elysia, it is definitely the most newbie-friendly. My second choice would be Mikona, but I would not leave the city itself until you have gained some levels, and would be very careful in its sewers.

My absolute last choice would be the wilderness, unless you like pain, more pain, and a quick death.

PS - Welcome to Avlis! Hope you have fun!! :D

BAH! Start in Mikona, you'll be fine. Just don't leave the city, don't go in the slums till you get a level or two and learn to run when going in the sewers.

If you do find yourself in trouble, head outside the city gates (yes, the ones I told you not to leave) and right out there is a rock, if you see a bunch of people around the rock, ask for help. Those bums are problably bored out of their minds and will help you out if they can. Just be ready to hear stupid jokes and false stories ("No, really, we fought two dragons a few minutes ago to save this woman here.")

Yarr! But hey, it was you that came up with that story.

Yeah, we're usually willing to help out. Remember, Avlis' greatest philanthropist lives in Mikona.*Prods Reinstag with a conscience*

Say, wasn't it three dragons, an army of fire giants and some lichs to top it off?

Oh well.

And yes, welcome.

Reinstag might seem a bit nutty, but he's nice once you get to know him.

And once you put the muzzle over his mouth...and sedate him...and...

good to have you, and I hope to see you around, that is when I finish with my graduate seminar papers and can finally return to playing.

*sighs* well, guess I go back to work.

Ahem. Well, you know, Verg, less time on the boards=more time to work on papers=sooner you'll be able to get back on Avlis and then I can bug you with TELLs again... :) (Just kidding, just gotta give you some grief... ).

What was this thread about? Oh yeah, welcome to Avlis, if you start on Elysia and I'm on (I play a character named Eloryn), feel free to go out of your way to talk to me and I'll show you around.

a little time on the boards and IRC to relax. I can't just sit around and work all the time.

ello, im a new old guy to. I started a character at avlis loong time ago, but stopped playing after being stuck on limbo for days!

But know im back, ready for a fight, and not going to play CN again :P .

Some questions first , though. Do i need the expansions packs to play? Is it absolutely nescesary to play a goody-twoshoes character? Anything important to know for a new player other than what i can read in the rules and faq?

I hope i can start up and not get killed by a homocidal fairy again (Yeah, shure, she was aiming for the rats and trying to help me. Like i believe that  )

Anyways, hope to see some of you ingame soon[/i]

Welcome back! To answer your questions...

You do need SoU to play now.
You will need HoTU, but not for some time as we won't be upgrading for a month or so after the release, if not longer.
You do not have to play goody-twoshoes characters. In fact I am the only goody-two shoes character I know on Avlis :D Everyone else is mean and horrible!
Start in Mikona or Elysia. If you start in Mikona don't leave the city without an escort of high level bad-ass characters that look like christmas trees. Read the boards. The rules and FAQ's will get you started. If you want to find something out about the world try and find out in character.

Final bit of advice. Have fun! And if you want to rip the piss out of a goody two-shoes look me up in game!

Thank goodness Vicky finally gave up that powergamer character, Tehenen. If I saw her one more time at the Ice Caves, I was gonna throw up! Jesus. To go from level 1 to 5 in 8 months is just ridiculous. I bet she has like 4200 gold too. Unbelievable how fast she was gaining levels and wealth. ;)
