Avlis Desktop Icons

Post by Garand » Wed Oct 22, 2003 6:31 am

Well, okay, I got bored and, with the recent server lag, decided I wanted to do something productive. Since I'm working on a piece of artwork for Avlis, but am currently suffering from a creator's block of sorts, I wanted to try doing something Avlis related that might spark my creative process.

I remember at one point someone asking for desktop icons that were Avlis specific, for Direct Server Shortcuts (which there are instructions for elsewhere in these forums that you can do a search to find).

End result, I've created these desktop icons:

Image

Each of the server icons is taken from a modified piece of artwork or photograph. The God icons and organizational icons are taken from the artwork used for Cafepress (the Avlis IcoN) as well as what I could scavenge from the forums.

They are available for download here (hopefully the link will work):

These are beautiful Garand.

Thank you.

Thank goodness Vicky finally gave up that powergamer character, Tehenen. If I saw her one more time at the Ice Caves, I was gonna throw up! Jesus. To go from level 1 to 5 in 8 months is just ridiculous. I bet she has like 4200 gold too. Unbelievable how fast she was gaining levels and wealth. ;)

Nice indeed. I've DLed them succesfully.

Maybe it would be a good idea to repost the info on how to use shortcuts from the desktop to log into the servers directly here. I would, but I don't have it. :?
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

For Windows XP users:

-Right click on your desktop and select New -> Shortcut

-When prompted enter the following for the location of the item:

Code: Select all

C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect avlis.blackdagger.net:512# +password ********
NOTES: In the Code above, where you see the # symbol change that to the server you are linking to (ie. Mikona = 1, Wilderness = 2, Elysia = 3, Le'Or = 4, Deglos = 5, Ferrell = 6)

Also, where you see ******** you should enter the server's password exactly as you would enter it when prompted in the game.

If you've placed NWN in a different directory/drive than the one above then you need to change the code to match where you have located it.

-Click Next

-Enter the name of the server for the name of the shortcut.

-Click Finish

The shortcut should appear on your desktop with the NWN main icon by default.

-Download the new icons, use winRAR to unpack them into a directory where you can find them (I put mine in the Neverwinter Nights directory but NOT the NWN directory where the game is located).

-Then, right click on the shortcut on the desktop, and select Properties

-Click Change Icon ...

-Click Browse and find the directory with the icons, select the one you want.

-Click Okay

-Click Okay

Voila!

Finally!!
I suggested something like this many months ago. The closest we got was
someone posted some sized down background images that kinda sorta
represented different types of landscape.
THESE are perfect, and just what I was looking for... thanks!

I think one of the things I've always loved about Avlis is the fact that everybody, be they team or player, is willing to go that extra mile to make the whole experience more enjoyable for everybody, even with minour details like this. Excellent work, Garand!

Great - I have them in my Start Menu.

They work really well.

Could this possibly be added to the downloads section? With credits of
course.
