Reach Weapons

Post by Spell Singer » Tue Sep 30, 2003 9:07 am

Just something for general interest I noticed yesterday. Weapon reach is implemented so there is an advantage to using weapons such as a spear or a halberd. Your threat range is much greater.

I was fighting those pesky goblins with a bizzilon hits and one was standing behind the others taking pot shots with a crossbow. Everytime it did this my character smacked it with my halberd, clearly reaching through the line of goblins to get it.

I noticed the fighting style changed to when the goblin was a bit farther away more attacks involved sweeping with the halberd, when it was up close it got the proper chocked down smack. Astounding to say the least that someone actually worried about things like this.

Amazing indeed.

Actually, that now means that groups can enter tunnels and so forth with 2 ranks of fighters! Front line and 2nd line with long reach weapons! :)

It would be intersting to see this in action.

In theory this should work...but I will need to try this out to see if it does. There maybe a problem with pathfinding. But I have noticed for a long time that my character when using his Halberd will attack things a fair distance away. Just last night was the first time I could really see it clearly in action.

I hope I am not being faked out here. It would realy make spears more effective than they are now (almost no one uses them).

Hmmm, better prepare the 4A to produce more halberds and spears...

Noticed this a while back. It's one of the reasons Illi chose to use, and still uses, her trusty spear. The other reasons were:

A. They look cool, as do the fighting moves.
B. Barely anyone seems to use them, which is a shame.

Go spears. Interestingly, she's never encountered, or even seen, a spear better than +1. Not even from Mythos. :)
