The day NWN was released, people were building their own modules, without so much as a readme.

A casual gamer can build and run their own modules, they just won't be real fancy or complex, but it can be done with nothing more then the wizards that came out with the release version of NWN.

Bioware was quite honest with people, about the fact that to do something fancy or complex, would require scripting. The mantra on the Bioboards was "You can script it." So anyone who bought NWN thinking they could create something like Tomb of Horrors, or some other complex module, without scripting was a idiot, who didn't bother to do the most basic research into what they were getting.

Likewise, show me another game that would allow you to BUILD the Tomb of Horr... err... Temple of Verossa. :) Yes, it requires some practice and programming skill, but frankly that's the trade-off between power and ease-of-use - you either get all the flexibility and depth you want, or you get something anyone can use easily, but never both. Speaking for myself, I'd rather have a Ferrari with a manual transmission than a Yugo with automatic transmission and cruise control.

Ooh! Here's some nifty new info!

To account for this and for organizing a simultaneous release for non-English languages, we are going to schedule the 1.32 Update to be released on Thursday morning, September 18th. While this seems like a delay it is only one such that we can have the release at the same time for all languages.

Yeah I can see the point about it being over rated, but this game has kept me interested in online gaming.
For me,MMPORGs are the most over rated gaming experience around.Arcadian Del Sol wrote a really good piece about it on his web site recently (first things he'sa written there in about 4 months).
The pay to play games don't work for me because they always end up being geared towards the lowest common denominator, trying to please 10,000 players rather than 100 or whatever. They always pretty much suck, even the much hyped Star Wars Galaxies which I did try for a month.
With NWN,there's a server or game for just about any taste, wether it's pure hack n slash,or heavy rp or a mix of both,it's there. The griefer or asshole equation is almost non existant, because server communities and owners don't have to put up with it.
I love NWN .Recently I just hooked up with some folks through NeverWinter Connections for some dm'ed sessions that had a very cool almost PnP feel.I also took a DM 101 class there, and may start dm'ing games through the service.
The community is so huge now that I don't think we have to worry about support going away for quite some time.Maybe by then someone will have made a NWN style game/toolset using Steve Jackson's gurps system.
