Barter Bug

Post by slow feet » Sun Feb 17, 2019 12:39 pm

I'm haven't a terrible time a the trade show. I can't complete trades.

We open a barter window, they put in a item, I put in money. We both push the first button and it lights up fine. Then the press accept and it lights up. And now amount of pressing will get my accept button to light up and the transaction to complete. It just sucks.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm using GOG NWN and I don't think I have any other haks that what are required (well there may be some old one is there).

Thanks...

I am almost positive it's just some lag from the large crowds but just incase it's something on your end, here is a good read of some of the known bugs and recommended fixes

Hmmm....I'm using the GOG build instead of the critical rebuild build. I'll download that after the fair and see if that helps.

Thanks...

I think I finally figured why I'm having issues with bartering. I was able to reproduce a similar issue with the spell book selecting spell descriptions on 9th level spells when the character page was open. It is related to video resolution. I have mine set to 1600x900 and menu buttons in the lower right corner seem to be unreachable. If I change my video resolution to 1280x1024 those buttons seem to selectable again. Sounds like a hardcoded bounding box problem somewhere in the menu button code. *shrug* At least I have a way to use barter functionality again.

Odd. I used to play at 1600x900 on one box quite a bit, though in window mode, and also have it used at that resolution on a few laptops.

Do you have any overrides that might be messing with the GUI?

To the best of my knowledge, I've never added a override. There are several files in there.
itt_midmisc_029.tga
Is_car_01.dds
Is_car_01.tga
Is_car_01s.dds
Is_car_01s.tga
Is_car_03.dds
Is_car_03.tga
Is_car_03s.dds
Is_car_03s.tga

All have date mod from 2008

There is an override_bak dir that has, versions of the Is_car* files with the same date as the itt_midmisc_029.tga file. The ls_car* files in the override dir have an older date.

Those files should be in there. BioWare added them to fix a few goofs in the last update.

I'm not sure what to suggest. Do you play fullscreen or in window mode when the problem happens?

I play fullscreen. I like the edge rotate functionality that you get with fullscreen that doesn't really work as well with windowed mode.

I prefer the middle wheel button for panning and zooming, so no need for the edge stuff in a window.

I haven't found anything about that problem so far in my searching, but I'll keep looking. If it was a higher resolution then I might suspect the scaling or some such, but 1600x900 is not that big. I know the game can be a bit of a pain to make work on 4k monitors and big screens, but it never had issues I can remember with lower resolutions (it even does extra-widescreen pretty well with multiple monitors).

I zoom in and out with the mouse scroll wheel, and use F and G key to turn my Screen view left and right, and use R and V to look up and down. This allows me to control all my view angles from my index finger and mouse scroll key. I disabled my mouse turning my head viewing angles from the sides of the screen because when I tried to scroll up and down to see who was in the group I found, that the scroll for that would sometimes conflict with the right and left screen head viewing angle control.

I use Space Bar to run (thumb), and W (ring finger) to walk, S (ring finger) to walk backward, and A, D, W, Q, E, shift Keys and ctrl keys are Bioware default. I have Z set up for map, X Setup for inventory, and C Key's set up for my character sheet for quick access. The T and Y Keys I have set up for moving up and down through inventory pages quickly. These Keys A, D, W, Q, E, Z, X, and C are all used with my pinky, ring finger, and middle finger for controlling where I'm moving my character in-game and the quick axis. I have B Key set up for resting and H is for spellbook which I don't use but mapped anyways. With this set up I can do most all control with my left hand pretty easily and don't have to move from it's resting place or stretch my fingers to the right side of the keyboard.
